Has this happened to anyone else?

Currently 19 weeks pregnant with second baby.
In the shops today I felt slightly lightheaded (though this has happened before and thought it was just because I hadn't eaten much). Then all of a sudden my vision started to go blurry then completely went for about 5 minutes until I sat down on the floor. I felt like I was going to pass out (which again had happened before) but never have lost my vision. Has this happened to anyone else ? Is it something to worry about ?

I’ve had this a couple of times (not when pregnant) and I have vertigo. Could be that?

Refilona · 14/04/2019 17:16

This happened to me too a few times, I’m 29 weeks now and it’s gone away. My mum used to have it a lot when she was pregnant with me too. Doctor said it’s normal in pregnancy but mention it to your midwife when she checks your blood pressure.

chestnut9 · 14/04/2019 17:16

I would call your midwife asap if I were you - may be nothing and I don't want to worry you but I believe blurry vision can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. Def worth getting checked out x

LouB1990 · 14/04/2019 17:17

My friend had this. It was low blood pressure. It must be scary xx

OfDragonsDeep · 14/04/2019 17:18

Yes, I’m 20 weeks and this has happened to me a few times. It’s always in shops and I have to sit down and wait till it passes. It happens more when it’s been cold outside and hot in the shop and when I’ve been looking at things low down on shelves. It makes my hands and feet go tingly too.

I asked the Dr when I last saw him and he thinks it’s a combination of low blood pressure and not eating enough. He suggested that I drink more water and eat more things like porridge/slow release carbs. It’s not happened for a few days now, but it’s kinda put me off going to the shops on my own with my toddler. I’m afraid if someone saw me they’d want to call an ambulance or something!

Hunkyd0ry · 14/04/2019 17:18

I’ve had it a few times. Used to get it when I was younger and on my period. Used to lie down and put my feet up (little random on a packed train but it stopped me passing out)
I also had it when I was pregnant if I felt travel sick. I had low iron levels so could be related to that.

Thanks for replies.
I had to look up vertigo. I don't seem to have any of the other symptoms for that.
I will make an appointment at the doctors tomorrow. Just sort of scared to go out alone with LO now!

Was it dizziness or more blurred vision? Dizziness is fairly common during pregnancy, often related to low blood pressure or low blood sugar levels.

I was advised to get checked out in hospital after suffering blurred vision, shortness of breath, tiredness and dizziness couple of weeks ago. A few of those symptoms could point to pre-eclampsia though so they wanted to rule that out.

Do you have any other symptoms like this? If so, I think it would be wise to get blood pressure/urine checked by midwife.

Deffo had blurred vision and then it just completely went and all I could see was black then I started crying as I honestly just thought I was going blind!
I often suffer with shortness of breathe, though I used to have that a little with my first pregnancy. Dizziness is really common for me too when I don't eat enough and I'm always tired as I have a 7 month old!

I get this sometimes and it's usually a sign my blood pressure has dropped. Plenty of fluids, make sure you're eating plenty and get your midwife to check your bp

DNSL · 14/04/2019 18:38

Hi everybody. Can I just ask if anybody has experienced this before. I am currently 6 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. Last week I had some light bleeding and small clots and some mild tummy cramps. I was advised to go to A&E who done bloods and simple checks but sent me to the early pregnancy problem clinic. They done an internal scan (weird) and we had a healthy heart beat to my delight. The nurse told me bot to worry and to take it easy with heavy lifting, exercise etc... They are going to see me again in 2 weeks for another scan which is good. My scan was 2 days ago but I am still having some /reddish brownish staining each time I urinate. Has anybody had this experience during pregnancy as I didn't experience this with me first pregnancy.

nomoreusernamesleft · 14/04/2019 19:16

@katmarie MIL said it could be my blood pressure too. Do I need to book it with the midwife or do you think doctors will be ok/know what they are looking for ?
@DNSL no sorry. I never experienced any bleeding with either pregnancy but I know people who have had a little bleeding and been fine but continue to get checked. Maybe start your own thread with a name like "bleeding when urinating when pregnant" or something and maybe people who have had similar experiences will comment ?
Hope everything goes well for you

Yes, I had the very same. Mine was due to low blood pressure.

sighrollseyes · 14/04/2019 19:23

I had this twice in this pregnancy - mine was low bp

Newyearsameoldshit · 14/04/2019 21:38

I have had this when not pregnant and it's been low blood sugar.

Definitely worth talking to your midwife so they can check your blood pressure as people have mentioned above, and try and get to the bottom of it.

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 14/04/2019 21:42

Ask them to check your HB1ac and/or for a GTT it could've been a hypo cause by gestational diabetes.

I had this and had a hypo it was awful. It needs careful monitoring
You may not have the indicators for it but could still have it. Don't be fobbed off

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 14/04/2019 21:44

The description you gave sounds like a hypo caused by low blood sugar x

nomoreusernamesleft · 15/04/2019 11:11

Hi guys. Thanks for all advice

I went to doctors today and she said everything seems fine, though my blood pressure was a little on the low side.
She then said I should go to the eye hospital to get my eyes checked out as what I described didn't seem like a usual fainting episode. So going to go there later on today.
Gosh I hate a & e probably be there for hours!

Honestly id really really really ask them to check for GD. It's a simple blood test/fasting blood test. I had no symptoms and have had it twice. What you describe happened to me due to low blood sugar.
Not sure how common an isolated case would be but its worth getting checked.
Im glad she didnt find anything else wrong though that must be a relief x

nomoreusernamesleft · 15/04/2019 17:16

@TheRealHousewifeofCheshire I've made an appointment tomorrow to have some blood tests done :) xx

TheRealHousewifeofCheshire · 15/04/2019 18:17

Hopefully it will all be ok but after having it myself with no obvious symptoms I know its something that women probably have without realising. In a way, I'm glad they found i had it and I was monitored the care I got was amazing.

Keep us posted OP hope you get on ok

burblife · 18/04/2019 14:44

How did you get on @nomoreusernamesleft ?

nomoreusernamesleft · 18/04/2019 18:26

@burblife went for blood tests they said everything is fine so I guess I'll just go to eye a&e and see if there is anything wrong with my eyes. I think it was probably just low blood pressure x

burblife · 18/04/2019 18:57

Ah glad that all checked out ok. I've seen midwife today and she suggested an eye test so I'm booked in for next week. It's very strange.

nomoreusernamesleft · 18/04/2019 20:43

@burblife hopefully both our eyes are fine. Though I can't work out why my eye went blank when I felt like I was going to faint if it is something just to do with my eyes. (If that makes any sense)
