Unsure if my waters are breaking?

Hello all :)

I'm 40 weeks and feel very very light leaking down there. It's not enough to make me feel like I've pee'd myself or to fill up a pad I doubt, but since a couple of hours ago I've changed my knickers twice due to the light leaking and moisture.

Could this be my waters or could I just be leaking urine or something?

Would you wait a couple of hours to see if it continues?

Any advice would be great :)

The smell of amniotic fluid is unmistakable. Kind of like hay. If you smell your underwear, do you smell something distinctive and unfamiliar?

You could ring triage, there’s a test they can do with a little swab to check if it’s fluid or just discharge!

A small leaking or a gush of water is your water breaking, you can alway's call the NHS number and ask for advice

Phone the day assessment unit and get checked. If it is your waters they will check you and baby are well and advise you to monitor the colour of the fluid, your temp and baby's movements. They'll invite you in for induction if labour doesn't start naturally.

Sniff your pants. Sounds gross but it's a pretty good indication.

Bring your underwear into the hospital. If they are not sure they will perform a test by taking a swab. I had a small amount of fluid leak and went in and they didn't think it was anything but they performed the test saying we've never been wrong...sure enough it was my waters! I was 41weeks. It's best to get tested as they need to know when your waters went. Good luck xx
