Big baby in breech position

I had my growth scan yesterday at 31 weeks and baby is measuring big and also in breech position. I didn't see my midwife yesterday so didn't get to ask any questions about this and I'm wondering what will happen if baby doesn't turn himself?

The midwives will offer to turn your baby by hand it can be quite uncomfortable and some people refuse this

C Section may be on the cards also

I had the same. They said baby would be 10lb plus, she was 7lb and tiny.
Tried the ECV. Was horrible, the stuff they gave me to relax my muscles gave me the shakes. Was very painful and didn't work.
I had a lovely elective caesarean, and turned out that the cord was round her neck, and short, so was impossible for her to turn.

You have to do what's best for baby, and I have no regrets at having the c-section.

My boy was breech at 29 weeks but at a scan the other day at 34 he had turned.

Baby may turn themselves but there’s lots of exercises/things you can find online and try to help get baby moving.

@ Flamingosnbears
Thanks, was really hoping not for a c section so I'd definitely prefer if they tried to turn him by hand.

@azulmariposa
I know they get the size wrong in lots of cases but my first child also measured ahead all along and was a big baby when born so I think history may be repeating itself Hmm
At what stage did they try the ecv and let you decide about c section?
They did check where the cord was yesterday actually so possibly were checking if it is possible for him to turn around. Ds was born with the cord wrapped around his neck twice so I'm always worried about cord issues.

@Mikewazowskismrs
Thank you, I'll start looking at some of these exercises

My first baby turned at 36 weeks by himself and second baby was breech right up until my waters broke and he spun himself around then! It can happen right up until the end but they will probably plan for a section by around 37/38 weeks

Well dd was born at 37+6 and the ECV was about a fortnight before that.

I tried every exercise going, reflexology, moxibustion, nothing would make her turn. The ECV was probably one of the worst things I've ever experienced. The caesarean was a breeze compared to that. If I was in the same situation again I'd turn down the ECV and go straight for the section.
Don't dismiss the idea of a caesarean, it's better to have an elective as then it's nice and calm. Recovery isn't as bad as I thought, having my gallbladder out I was in far worse pain for weeks afterwards.

I tried all sorts of yoga to encourage my LO (big and breech too) to turn. Didnt happen so tired the ECV which I found uncomfortable but not the worst. Dds bum had started to engage so impossible to turn sadly. Ended up with an Elective C and happy with that.

Good luck OP!

Have a look at the Spinning Babies website - lots of exercises and positions to encourage baby to turn.

31 weeks is nothing, especially for a second pregnancy. 99% likely he'll turn, i believe. Good luck!
