Confusion about miscarriage

Hi everyone, this is my first post on mumsnet so I’m so sorry if I have posted in the wrong place, i have no idea what i am doing , I tried to do it in another topic but I don’t think it posted Blush

I am just looking for some advice or to hear other experiences like mine.

I have been been bleeding for about 4 weeks Mainly spotting but with about a week of heavy bleeding & clots (sorry if too much info) I did a pregnancy test at home and it was positive.

Booked in the docs and she took two blood samples from me 48 hours apart to check my hormone levels were increasing, she rang me this morning to say they had gone from 125 to 106 so I had miscarried.

I asked did I need to do anything else maybe get checked in the hospital because in my previous miscarriage I had a d&c to remove anything left. My doctor said no that’s it I don’t need to do anything else, so I am just wondering if that’s normal and worried incase there is anything left over as I know this can sometimes happen in miscarriages

Hi OP, firstly I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I had an early miscarriage at five weeks, and had a similar experience to you, didn’t need to have a scan or anything as bloods confirmed it.

(As a different experience I then had a blighted ovum at around 8 weeks (difficult to date as I got pregnant straight after my previous loss). I was spotting, so I had two scans a fortnight apart at the Epu and then had it medically managed.)

How many weeks are you? Were you already booked in with the midwife? I was told after both of mine to do a test 2/3 weeks after the bleeding stopped, to make sure that it was negative. If it had still been positive they would have wanted to see me again.

Sorry, that was quite garbled, but just wanted to share so you knew you weren’t alone x

@lancs84 not sure how to reply directly to you hopefully this works. Thank you for your reply so sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I think I would have been around 7 weeks , haven’t seen or been booked with a midwife just my doctor. I should have asked more questions when she called me today but I didn’t even think at the time was just shocked

Don’t be afraid to make another apt with your GP to discuss further; I totally understand how you must have felt when she phoned; it’s perfectly normal to be a bit stumped after a shock like that (and it’s always a shock I’ve found, even if you know it doesn’t look good) to think of questions later. You could even just ring and ask the receptionist if you can get a call back? I know they do that at our GP.

In the meantime please make sure you are looking after yourself, it’s a hell of an ordeal both physically and emotionally. Sending you a virtual hug x

@lancs84 thank you so much I think I will book in again to discuss everything with it being so different to my last experience. Thank you

Hi sorry to hear. I would visit the early pregnancy unit in the hospital, or call them rather than GP. You can request a scan to see what’s left.
