Booking blood test appointment

So, I am nearly a week late with my period. Tested twice 2 and 3 days ago but came out negative. Today I called my surgery and was told to repeat the test in a few days as tests are so accurate these days. I still requested an appointment and was turned down till next week at least. They did not allowed me to book next week's appointment now. I am a bit confused and angry with the treatment I received. I have had horrendous tummy ache for the last 3 days, headache and feel nauseous but have been treated as if I was just wasting time. Come back with a positive test! So gutted!

This is meant with kindness. There are thousands of women who are late every month for non-pregnancy reasons. Gp appointments for something so common (and rarely harmful to health) is not a good use of nhs resources... and honestly, if you aren't getting a positive test, you're incredibly unlikely to get a positive blood test. They're going unlikely to be able to give you any answers and won't induce a period until it's gone awol for a couple of months.

Are the headache and nausea too bad to medicate over the counter? If yes, ring up and get an appointment for that. Headache and nausea are not only associated with pregnancy but could have a huge variety of causes.

I see posts every day where people have late periods because they ovulated later in their cycle than expected. Is it possible that you did?

Sadly telling you to wait and test again in a week’s time is standard advice as home tests really are as reliable as those done at the GP surgery. Usually you would have to have missed at least 2-3 periods before a GP would request blood tests - and then it would be for general hormone levels not beta hCG levels.

If you are that determined to have a blood test then you would need to find a private GP clinic who would do it for you.
