Nursery Chair

Hi

I have started to look around at chairs for the nursery. I don't want one of the nursing gliders, (mainly because I think they look ugly!) so looking for a stylish alternative

I guess my main question would be how important is the rocking element! Seen some lovely comfy looking armchairs but worried I'll regret not getting a rocking chair

Here is an example of one I like. Opinions would be gratefully received!!

I never used a chair in my sons room. He was in with me until 18m and I just sat on the edge of the bed when I fed him.

I only ever started using a chair after 6 months when she was in her own room but still waking up for night feeds. I started with a rocking chair but I just found it too uncomfortable. I switched to a soft arm chair and it's perfect. My tip would be to get something comfortable that you can sit in for a long period with a sleepy baby! Also something that you can put a small table next for a drink and maybe a phone charger.

i would say before splashing out on a lovely armchair consider this babys throw up or spit up they are sweet but messy.I used a rocking chair for my daughter when breastfeeding in my room.I liked the rocking element but each to their own i guess.

We bought a gorgeous silver tub chair from dunelm so it can be used afterwards. Nursing chairs are so expensive and useless afterwards x

The Ikea poang chair works great as a nursing chair. We never bought one initially as like a previous poster while DD was in with us I just sat on the bed to feed. We got one once she moved into her own room as she was still waking up for feeds in the night.

We have the Ikea poang chair too. Removable fabric so you can wash it. Does rock/bounce slightly. We use for the feed before bed and any night time wakings that require a cuddle.

We didn't have a chair until DD was in her own room. When she was with us, I fed her in bed. I then got an Ikea Poang, the rocking one. I'd say it's worth testing out how easy it is to get out of the chair - rocking does help with that. If you've got a sleeping baby in your arms, you don't want to be struggling to get up!

Thanks all for your helpful replies! This def sounds like i need to wait til baby is here before choosing something...I was so keen to have the nursery finished before he arrives but probably sensible to wait and see how I feel down the road!

Thanks again x

Just to add I love my rocking chair. It’s the same as this one.

Not as nice looking as your one but I still use it with 3.5 yo DD (long past feeding!) the rocking motion calms her, she falls asleep in it on me all the time and with the footstool it’s really comfy.

Eminybob · 12/04/2019 12:07

Another vote for Ikea poang, it’s comfy, a bit bouncy/rocky and fits well into our nursery which is tight on space.
Also, I found sitting on the edge of the bed to feed absolutely wrecks my back so I used the chair even when my 2 were still in with us.

I really like the idea of a rocking chair but not sure we will have room for one.

MCPT · 13/04/2019 21:37

I'm getting myself this one.. www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/products/gaia-baby-serena-rocking-chair-oat

I regret not getting a rocking chair, not for feeding but for those times that she just wants to be held but only if I'm moving her around.

I think rocking chairs are ugly too but I don't care, I'm getting one for this next one.

stucknoue · 14/04/2019 15:31

Not essential, I personally fed in the living room or bedroom. The nursery chair stems from when women retreated to the nursery to feed in their own house and baby slept in the nursery straight away

Moggyshake3 · 07/10/2019 00:47

Hello, we are looking to buy one of these for our nursery but can’t seem to find any reviews on them. Can you tell us what it’s like please?

Moggyshake3 · 07/10/2019 00:48

My last message was to MCPT about the Gaia chair. Sorry I’m new here....
