Anyone told work about pregnancy before family?

Exactly that really, I have my first midwife/booking appointment coming up soon and need to leave work about 30 mins early to get there in time (it's the latest appointment in the day). I know employers allow time off for pregnancy related medical appointments but it would mean me telling work that I'm pregnant before I've told any of my family or friends. I'm a teacher so have to sort a cover teacher for the last lesson of the day, which of course has to be authorised.

Has anyone else told work before anyone else?

I was planning on telling my employer once I got to 12 weeks to give them plenty of time to get someone sorted for my maternity cover. Smile

My SIL has... 25 weeks or so pregnant and we are not allowed to tell extended family, but all her office know (obviously, as they can see her bump). And nephew tells every stranger he sees on the street that there’s a baby in mummy’s tummy. But we can’t mention it to our aunts/uncles/cousins that we frequently see.
But that’s another post...
I did tell my manager at just 7 weeks when we found out it was twins which explained why I could hardly drag my ass out of bed and into the office before midday due to sickness and exhaustion. Our parents and siblings were told soon after and a few close friends for support/venting. Everyone else past the 12 week scan.

Yes, while I hoped nothing would go wrong, I was doing a lot of travel so told my boss and his boss - just in case anything happened while I was away. And to cancel my ticket to a major conference (they all flew off the day I went on mat leave).

At about 5 weeks.

Told all the families at 14 weeks. We had a family funeral the day after we got home from holidays so waited another week.

But we live and work 2.5 hours away from family so that made it a bit different to living in the same village.

I had to at 9 weeks in this pregnancy because I was signed off with HG - I'd told DM but no other family. I'd had an extra scan at 8 weeks (because of the HG) but it still felt odd telling work first. I did then go on to tell most of the rest of my family over the next few weeks as with being signed off I was otherwise going to have to lie to family about what I was doing.

That's made me feel a bit better about it, thanks everyone. I'm going to have to do it via email because it's the Easter hols and my 1st appointment is the first day of the new term. I know that's not ideal but it's the only way I know the head teacher will see it!

Yep, my boss knew before anyone else as I was so sick, so he knew 'un-officially' quite early! Told my parents at 10 weeks, formally notified boss in writing at 12 weeks, MIL at 15 weeks. Didn't announce to wider family/friends til we went public at 17.5 weeks.
