Hi
Can any of your recommend a good tens machine to hire. Do you know are the pads always connected by wire to the handset thing, or can you get some which are wireless, so you have the pads on your back but the handset is separate?
Thanks

Hi
I had the Elle Tens I think from the NCT catalogue. The one with the boost button. I quite liked the boost feature, every contraction I'd press that & it did have an effect. I'm afraid they all have wires conected from handset to machine. Technology not that advanced. Will get again this time round.

Hired mine from Boots & it was brand new when I got it. Very helpful, lady showed me how to set it up in a wee private room & gave me a book & helpline number (not 24 hr tho' shame) It was no bother to extend hire either as I went overdue, only thing was I was induced & it didn't help a bit & I found it more annoying than anything else.

i would say ....don't bother with the machine...

Yes, the pads have to be connected to the pack - that's how it works.

I had one from the hospital with DS1 and rented one from boots for DS2 - the boots one was better - the pads were reusable so I could use it during some very painful runs of braxton hicks and severe backache that preceded my labour too. It had more settings as well.

I hired one from TensHire (I think) - worked a treat (until the actual labour started anyway)

I'm with you Chelseamum, but I'll stay very, very quiet...

I had the Boots one which kept me occupied all day while I was waiting for the contactions to get themselves into a pattern where the Hospital said I could go in. Once in there and the contrations were thick and fast it just annoyed me as I needed to focus.

Useful as a distraction and helped with the early cramping but for Active Labour I would not use it again.
