I know I am not sleeping brilliantly at the moment but I am not at work just now so hardly using up lots of energy during the day. I do my best to eat well and take a walk each day but I am so bloody tired! I have to have a nap every day. I am 26 weeks - I though I was going to get a second trimester energy boost. If I feel this tired now what on earth am I going to feel like towards the end

The second trimester bloom is a lie perpetrated by the government to increase the birth rate. Every time you mention it, a small amount of money gets wired to your bank account. Mums, midwives, and even fellow mumsnetters are in on the conspiracy.

Ah, that explains it! I have huge phases of total exhaustion that started in the 2nd trimester. Was sick in the first, but never as tired. Am only 22 weeks, so am worried as how to make it through the next 18....

I haven't had the 'bloom' or the rush of energy either! I'm 27 weeks now and could quite happily go back to bed by lunchtime and stay there! I'm having my iron checked this week just in case. The doctor, however, told me last week that "You have 3 children of course you're tired". Stupid me!

I've had two babies and never bloomed once . I still feel cheated.

peggotty · 13/07/2007 17:13

Oh bloody hell, I am 12 weeks and have been waiting for the magic [fictional, it seems) 'surge' of energy. I think I DID have it first time around, but I don't think it's going to happen this time. May be something to do with looking after demanding 2 year old as well. Bum to it all.

Glimmer · 13/07/2007 17:20

No I am feeling really bad. I have no DC as excuse (which BTW seems to be a very valid one), but at least I work fulltime (or so I pretend...)

CaptainCaveman · 13/07/2007 17:25

The only bonus for feeling so crap and tired throughout your pg is so you can smugly tell all those fishwives who said "oooh, if you think you're tired now just wait til baby arrives" that actually you feel a million times better and pg was far worse than new born sleep deprivation.

blimey that was a long sentence!

I tell you the blooming business in the second trimester is a load of balderdash...I am in my third now and feel cheated. I have well meaning friends telling me " It'll just get worse now an d your hair will start falling out when you give birth and your skin goes to pot !! " cheers, not what i need to hear.

Hey - i did feel fab in my second trimester (sorry everyone). Found the tiredness suddenly lift around 14 weeks - then got a sudden lapse of energy again around 25 weeks - which passed by about week 27. But I do get about 10 hours sleep a night and am not running round after LO's - so that has to help! I started taking spatone at around week 25 on MW's recommendation and dont know if that has helped?

No 2nd trimester bloom for me either Now entered the 3rd (29 wks on sunday) and am always knackered, can't sleep for more than 3hrs without waking up, then have to chase after a 2 yrs old all day. Oh well, not too long to go

aikigypsy · 13/07/2007 18:09

I was exhausted for the first 2 months after discovering I was pregnant, then the second trimester kicked in... bringing my old insomnia back with it.

I must say, I feel fantastic when I get 9-10 hours of sleep at night and a nap in the afternoon, but that doesn't happen as often as I'd like. Still tired most of the time, but now, at... 23 weeks? Ack, it's 23 weeks already!... I can see the baby kick, which is pretty cool.

Still would like that burst of energy, though.

I'm writing this from bed, where I've been for most of the day. Am 20 wks and knackered - but I DO feel 100 times better than the first trimester, so at least that's something. Try not to beat yourself up about it (as I do, why aren't I superwoman etc.) and ignore tales of women out dancing in high heels until 40wks. Have found that early nights are the only way - am in bed today cos have had three nights out this week, so can't really complain... !

I didn't bloom in any of my 3 pregnancies. Like MI I felt cheated, so did DP who had been really looking forward to the accompanying (apparently) libido surge. Which did not happen.

40-42 weeks of tired tedium for me every time. On the plus side, I did bloom rather after the births each time. Felt positively bouncing and energetic with my newborns after such tiring pregnancies.

BetsyBoop · 13/07/2007 21:14

my theory on this is that in the 1st tri you have NO energy at all, then in the 2nd tri you get half your energy back & that is supposed to be the "blooming" bit. Then in the 3rd tri you lose half of this & have to run on 1/4 your normal energy levels....that's what happens to me anyway.

I am like a bag of shite during pregnancy, 32 weeks atm and I do not know how I will manage the next 8 weeks. I could sleep for 18 hours a day. Not once during both my pregnancies have I ever felt energetic and before I got pregnant I used to run 9 miles 4 times a week! I have gone from one extreme to the other. I can barely walk up the stairs from day one without stopping half way!
