Does the third trimester feel like it lasts forever?

I'm a few weeks in to the third trimester. I am very grateful that baby is still in their doing their thing, and would like it if they kept doing this until their due date, obviously.

But is it just me or does this trimester feel like it goes on forever? I think it's because I'm aching now, getting tired again, limited in regards to physical movement (my nice 1.5 hour a day dog walks are now a very slow 30 mins so DH has taken over 99% of walks). Nesting like crazy but can't do half of it because I end up shattered.

Plus the fact I'm just so excited to meet my baby. I love them to bits and am actually excited for labour just because it means they will be here after so much waiting (TTC for a while before falling pregnant).

Any tips of getting through the third trimester sane?

I thought it went quick until the last few weeks, mind u I was a week late 😒for me up till 20wks was an absolute drag!

Melamine · 10/04/2019 17:50

Mines absolutely raced by 😰

Slicedpineapple · 10/04/2019 18:10

I think a lot of it has gone pretty quick for me as I've had a lot of other activities/things planned so that I didn't find that I just counted down the weeks. But now I'm definitely just counting down the weeks.

I love my bump though and will be gutted in a way when I have to share her with the world. But I can't wait at the same time.

In short, yes Grin. I think it’s because the first trimester is the shortest (only really 9 weeks long from missed period) and second trimester you have scans, maybe find out the sex, feel pretty energised and great so all exciting. Third trimester is like waiting for Christmas to come Grin plus you feel so crap, heavy and tired which doesn’t help.

I’m the same @Slicedpineapple but can only sympathise - 37 weeks and I love being pregnant, and can not wait for the baby to be here but starting to feel tired and useless. I’m sure I’ve read similar threads about this so you’re not alone!!

I went swimming today which was nice - quite low energy but was great feeling weightless.

Or could you try something like hypnobirthing? I’ve been working through the digital course from Positive Birth company and helps me understand the science behind it, relax and get prepared and excited for birth (sounds like you’re excited anyway!)
Or find a box set to become addicted to and enjoy being able to do things that might be less easy when the baby is here 😊

I hate to tell you but it took me 42 weeks to grow all of my babies.

Go and eat lots of lovely food in cafes and restaurants that you love. Go to the cinema and watch films. Batch cook delicious meals and cookies for the freezer. If you have started maternity leave go to museums and exhibitions. Swimming is lovely as is some very relaxing pregnancy yoga. Nap! Pottering around shops when they aren’t so full of people. National trust places if you are a member. I look back so fondly on the last three weeks of my pregnancy with DS1 I was so contented and enjoyed doing some things just for me whilst I could!

My whole pregnancy has gone so slow! I found out I was pregnant 5 weeks before my wedding and I feel like I've been married a hundred years. I'm 30 weeks and just feel like I have forever to go! It's excitement, right?!

mrshadders · 10/04/2019 20:25

@OhioOhioOhio I want to cry for you!

SickOfThePig · 10/04/2019 20:28

34 weeks here. Already off work for 2. I hear you about the dog walks, my poor lad is going to be obese after this. His walks are non existent as I'm on crutches. I compensate by bringing him for a drive to the creche to pick up DD. I'm SO uncomfortable, not sleeping and still getting sick. Yay!!!

SickOfThePig · 10/04/2019 20:30

No nice lunches here. A few bites and I'm uncomfortably full for ages.

NoParticularPattern · 10/04/2019 20:33

I find it flies up until about 30/32 weeks. It’s always at that point that my brain goes “shit this baby could arrive like really soon” whilst simultaneously ignoring the fact that actually it could well be another 10-12 weeks (or more!!). I’m currently 25 weeks and it’s flown, but my brain has already started telling me it will only be another 15 weeks, could be less- when in actual fact my daughter was 2 weeks late 🤦‍♀️. Tiredness is ramping up again and I know what you mean with being achy and uncomfortable too. I’m not sure that third trimester drags quite as badly as the first though!

Chinks123 · 10/04/2019 20:38

The last couple of weeks seemed to last forever. I think it’s because I couldn’t really walk, couldn’t go too far from home in case I went in to labour, and basically had no way to kill time so the days dragged.

The newborn days on the other hand absolutely fly by. It’s cliche but they do grow so fast. I’ve blinked and mine is 6!!

Slicedpineapple · 10/04/2019 21:02

I have been reading about hypnobirthing, listening to some tracks and practising breathing exercises. I'm enjoying it!

Another handful of weeks to go until maternity leave and hoping I can spend some time with friends when I am off.

Glad I'm not alone in this feeling!!

Speaking from current experience, yes, yes it does.

Only 2 weeks to go...

Slicedpineapple · 10/04/2019 21:04

Ohio I (possibly naively) think they are out with my dates. I have a very long cycle so it's not too easy to work out from LPM. Obviously they dated me at my scan but I've got milestones very early - e.g felt baby moving at 13 weeks. Hoping this all means I don't go 2 weeks over!

ListenLinda good luck with the next 2 weeks

What amazes me is the amount of people that said not to buy nursery stuff until the third trimester. I really can't imagine going round shops looking at the furniture at this stage.

Thank you Slicedpineapple

Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy! It really isn’t long in the grand scheme of life haha

But my 2 yo DD makes rest and relaxation impossible Smile

SpinningSister · 10/04/2019 22:14

My last week of pregnancy (I gave birth 39+5) went like 80 years.

Baby is 12 weeks now and it feels like 12 minutes !!!!!

PBobs · 10/04/2019 22:42

I'm finding emigrating and work is a good distraction although I wouldn't recommend it for stress levels. I'm 31 weeks and I found the period between 16 and 26 weeks or so to drag. It's sped up a bit now but I suspect weeks 34 onwards will be slow again.

Cantthinkofausername1990 · 11/04/2019 09:38

I'm 31 weeks and find this trimester is going a lot quicker than the first two trimesters. Sickness is finally gone and life just seems easier! And can't believe I'm now down to only 9 weeks left Smile
I thought the time between months 4 and 5 seemed like an eternity. I'm much happier now.

Lantern92 · 11/04/2019 13:53

I feel like the first trimester dragged then weeks 12 to 20 went very quick.. I'm now 28 +2 and I feel like time has stopped 😔
