The right to give birth your way

Hi all,

I just wanted to share this piece written by a friend of mine on why it's so important that women have the right to give birth whichever way they want - and why she admires Meghan Markle for doing it her way and refusing to bow down to the pressure from others.

The author of this article hasn’t even delivered a baby yet. She’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that it’s not too Medieval on the labour ward. Prepare her for this shock: Lots of women called midwives will be milling around.

4 deliveries, me. Never saw any men in suits.

Thanks for sharing this @allieab.

@thevanguardsix - whilst the writer hasn’t given birth, it’s no secret that pregnant/birthing women are regularly coerced, ignored and professionals attempt (most often successfully) to take women’s autonomy away.
Yes this isn’t all Midwives or health professionals but it’s systemic. You only have to read many of the threads on these forums for how women feel about what their midwife is saying or their birth experiences. Often it’s something was done to the woman with an arbitrary ‘I’m going to XYZ’, not true informed consent which is the legal requirement.

Actually love the fact that Markle doesn't want the "standing outside the hospital looking all preened and perfect holding a baby like labour isn't a thing" press rubbish after the birth. Massive respect to her for wanting to recover from the birth in her own way, privately, without the ridiculous media circus afterwards.
