Lambs

Hi all

I know we need to avoid touching any lambs during pregnancy but does anyone know if the risks extend to visiting the farm completely? Not sure whether to go with the family to see the baby chickens too or whether I should actually avoid the area completely?

Thank you

The advice from the NHS is to not deliver lambs, touch miscarried lambs, touch newborn or miscarried lambs etc. You’d have to be touching the actual beast for transfer of the dodgy bacteria. I would go. But it’s down to your risk appetite. I expect most MN posters would say absolutely not!

I would go. My MIL was a sheep farmer when pregnant, and just took a back seat on the farm. Think you have to get pretty hands on for any risk. But maybe check with your midwife if you're concerned.

If you go, take some antibacterial gel with you, and don't got delivering any lambs

I went to a farm at around week 15. I didn't even think about it. I didn't touch any lambs, sheep or other animals though. They're not airborne bacteria are they?

Yes you can go, as others have said just don't lamb any sheep. I live on a sheep farm. I had to come home at lambing time. General policy here is just do t touch anything in the lambing shed.

Thanks everyone! Very excited I can still go cuddle a baby chick!
