I am supposed to be going to an 'Active Birth' class on Wed. However, after reading the blurb and seeing that it was an 'interactive class where you can try out positions and analyse others' i am really reluctant. I can't think of anything worse!!! Do i need this class or will instinct take over anyway?

I am smiling a bit as I went for active birth classes, fully intending to have home birth with first baby, totally confident that nature would take over etc. Ended up having emergency c-section!

I found it all a bit worthy to be honest but as the same time, much more informative and useful than ante-natal classes at hospital.

I'm sure everyone else will hate the interactive part as well, except for the instructor of course

Dh and I did a weekend workshop at the Active Birth Centre in N London when we were expecting ds1. It was quite brown rice, but in a v nice, caring way. Yes, the faux groaning bit (mercifully short) was pretty toe curling, but it was v useful in that dh learned some good massage ideas, which we did use in early labour, and at no point did anyone insist that whale music was the only way to go. As it turned out I had an emergency c-section for that birth, but the AB class did help me labour at home quite calmly until I went into the hosp. Worth doing - and if you hate it, you will have lots of hilarious stories to tell your friends about the mad birthing class you went to.
