Flying whilst Pregnant

Hi,

So just found out I'm pregnant and I will be going on holiday in June to Fuertventura. It's all inclusive.
At the time of booking the holiday I didn't realise I'm pregnant and now that I am pregnant I'm wondering if I will be safe to fly.
I've worked out that I'll be around 15 weeks when I fly.
Does anybody have any advice?

Thanks in advance

Flying is pretty safe - just double check what type of insurance you have. My insurance through my bank covered myself for all pregnancy related complications. It also covered my baby if it were to be born abroad which was important to me, but I was 30 weeks at that point.

You are at more risk of blood clots so flight socks and exercises are a good idea. It’s up to you though as to whether you feel comfortable or not.

You should be fine, I’m 15 weeks now and have to travel regularly with work- I’ve done 4 trips in this pregnancy so far!
Make sure you get up during the flight, keep your feet/toes moving and don’t sit with your legs crossed x

I flew to New York from Manchester at 21 weeks and was absolutely fine. I was having an easy second trimester but it's hard to know how you'll feel. Flight socks and lots of water and you'll be fine. I'd let the air stewards know you're pregnant and they will keep you hydrated!

I flew on 2 trips when pregnant, tenerife at 25 weeks then france at 32 weeks, all fine.

If flight is over 4 hr you may be recommemded blood thinners to prevent dvt, but your midwife will sort that for you. Yes as pp said on flight socks abd double checking insurance. Have fun!

I've done quite a few long hauls this pregnancy and all fine. Agree with previous advice on flight socks and exercise. Also drink plenty of water. I always take my water bottle everywhere - even before pregnancy - and ask the air stewards to fill it up for me from their bottled supply. Then you don't have to faff about with silly little cups. Maybe take a copy of your notes and definitely check insurance.

You'll be fine at that stage!
We went to Rome at new years on an early morning flight, I was 16 weeks and still had morning sickness. I vomited at the airport, vomited on the plane and after that I wasn't sick once when we got to Rome Confused landed back in Dublin and vomited again within half an hour!
Leading up to it I was nearly going to cancel the trip as I thought I couldn't do it, bit I'm so glad I went and I got so much fresh air. Even now I love looking back at the photos of me with bump at the colosseum and vatican etc.
Btw I love fuerteventura so I'm super jealous of you Wink
