Why do people like to comment on my bump??

Everyone I have seen today has commented on the size of my bump, ranging from 'you look ready to pop' (I'm only 23 weeks) to 'blimey its grown' and 'youre huge'

I know its big and I feel tired and uncomfortable, but please stop commenting on it.

Tell em to fuck off

sweetkitty · 12/07/2007 22:52

Come and have a moan on the pregnancy rant thread.

People see a bump and feel they have to say something/anything about it.

sparklygothkat · 12/07/2007 22:54

On the pregnancy topic

"pregnancy rant thread - let the hormones fly" sorry too late for links this pc takes ages to load.

Think it will be my personal diary for the next 8 1/2 months.

SNOWBall4girlz · 12/07/2007 23:15

its very annoying but I think people are just trying to be nice if you were not pregnant they would just comment about the rain lol

congratulations 23weeks already
[or should'nt I say that either

sparklygothkat · 12/07/2007 23:35

I know its scary, can't believe I am 23 weeks already.. If the DDs are anything to go by I could have this baby in about 10 weeks... [worried]

people just wanna talk to you/be nice. they just cant think of anything remotely interesting/relevent to say. i sympathise. i often cant think of anything coherent to say, let alone interesting...

SGC I know the feeling! Was huge with my 2 am only 5ft 3 and it peed me off!

sparklygothkat · 12/07/2007 23:55

I;m only 5ft tall, and its all at the front (carried all my kids the same way) Don;t look pregnant from behind, turn around and its there in your face... Its higher than my previous pregnancies and so uncomfortable. There is a pic on my profile of my bump 4 weeks ago, its grown since then..

Cloudhopper · 12/07/2007 23:57

I agree with you SGC. People used to be so tactless with me - it got like a scratched record.

In the end, I started getting a bit touchy and saying "I am actually pregnant, and having a large bump kind of goes with the territory".

Console yourself with the knowledge that actually a large bump is a really good sign that the baby is growing well. And it is only a temporary state of affairs.

You could always try Winston Churchill style response along the lines of "In 5 months, my bump will be gone. But you will still be rude and ugly."

Stefka · 13/07/2007 08:51

People comment on my bump too but everyone says different things. Some say 'Gosh that's a big bump it must be a boy" (?!?) and others say 'You're not very big are you'. Can't win eh.

daisyandbabybootoo · 13/07/2007 08:59

I think once you are pregnant people can't see past your bump and feel that they have to say something about it. It does get a bit wearing by the end of the nine months though (having just done it).

If it's getting to you, just tell them, "yeah well i'll have my baby soon, whereas you will always be ......"

I'll let you fill in the blanks yourself

If you think the big bump comments are bad, then just wait for the comments afterwards....

"have you got another one in there" being the favourite

Cloudhopper · 13/07/2007 09:03

Agreed daisy. It's just that the bump is there and they have to mention it. The proverbial 'elephant in the room'.

naturelover · 13/07/2007 10:44

Talking of elephants, that's how I overheard my dad describing me on the phone a few days ago.

My aged neighbour couldn't believe I have another two months or so, he said "how much bigger can you get?"

In fact, most people (including the midwife) have described my bump as "tidy" at 33 weeks. I'm tall, which presumably helps.

I think people just feel the need to say something, anything at all, which is why they resort to cliches.

helenelisabeth · 13/07/2007 13:43

I am 32 weeks pg and am fed up with people thinking I am about to burst! In fact when strangers ask me how long I have left I tell them 4 weeks instead of 8!

MrsBadger · 13/07/2007 13:59

I just find it all weird

I feel like a walrus, even DH (who is generally sweet and supportive) says I look like I've swallowed a spacehopper, but last week MW raved about my shapely bump and said several times I should get it photographed
