With my first birth I had a spinal block and forceps delivery, my legs were in the stirrups and instead of the midwives lifting them down onto the bed they just let my legs drop resulting in torn ligaments in both hips. I was unable to walk properly for nearly 2 weeks and was prescribed codeine for the pain.
Fast forward 6 years now nearly 20wks pregnant with DD2, I've started to get the same pain in my hips again, I'm petrified!! Im struggling to bend, walk and God forbid if I sit down for too long and try to get up again it's agony. Sad
Am I going to have this pain the rest of my pregnancy?
Is it normal for the injury to reoccur?
Natural pain relief?
Helpppppppp!!

You poor thing, that's awful. Could you speak to your midwife and see if they can give you some advice? (I'm sorry, I haven't experienced this) xx

Unfortunately in pregnancy we produce more of the hormone relaxin, which relaxes your ligaments. It can be an absolute nightmare if you have had previous ligament injuries. Have you spoken to your GP or midwife? I wonder if physio may help

My next MW appointment is when I'm 28wk but I feel like ringing her so I can speak to her about it. My GP is really useless all he advised was a pregnancy pillow (I have one already) and to try light exercise Hmm
Its a right nightmare because I'd forgotten all about it until now and just the thought of being stuck like this for the rest of my pregnancy fills me with dread!

You need a physio referral. Where I am the midwives can refer you to the specialist pregnancy physio team (they're fab and take a very holistic approach) but in some areas you can self refer. Give your midwife a ring to find out. It's rubbish having pain like this. I had pgp in my pregnancy, I'm dreading it happening again if and when we have a dc2!

ChaosMoon · 07/04/2019 08:40

Oh gods, no wonder you're stressed. If you had physio last time, start doing the exercises you were given then, just go gently. And be prepared to flight for a new physio referral. Don't take any more nonsense from your GP, but also try your midwife and self referral as PPs suggested.

Once you've seen someone, you may also want to try yoga or pilates as a way of strengthening the muscles around the damaged ligaments. ( I've had muscle and ligament problems all my life and tbh, yoga has made more of a difference than everything else out together. ) Good luck MissPollyHadADolly19.

I am in the same boat. 16 weeks pregnant and ended up in hospital last week for two nights as my hip locked up from previous injury.

I'm home now and trying to come off the painkillers. I'm so sore and am struggling to walk which isn't great with an almost 3 year old too.

I'm so worried that it'll be worse as the pregnancy progresses. I can't just sit about all day Sad

I had pregnancy pilates throughout my pregnancy last time so may give that a go. I never had physio, although a referral was made by GP by the time an appointment was made I wasn't struggling as much so I cancelled it.
It's worse if Ive been sat in one position for a long period of time or if I've been active during the day then take a moment to rest. I feel like I need some WD40 in my joints!!
@KimboSkimbo I really sympathise with you, my 6 year old DD must be cursing me after putting up with being wiped out from the 1st trimester and now this. I am also not the type able to just sit and rest, I enjoy pottering about and doing things! Sad
