Leg cramps - please help

I am 19 weeks with twins and I have ridiculously painful cramps. So painful that I literally cry out in pain and have to jump up to try and recover. They are getting worse. At first it was mild, at night in bed. Now it's happening during day, and the severity is increasing every time. I had one today at 7am which brought me to tears, lasted ages and my leg is still sore now at 840pm

Can anyone help? Is there anything I can to make this end?

laura2107 · 06/04/2019 20:42

Not sure if it will help but Iv been having really bad restless legs and the odd painful leg cramp and started magnesium supplement and it's really helped it x

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 06/04/2019 20:42

Oh I had forgotten about this completely! Agree with PP, bananas are your friend.

greenelephantscarf · 06/04/2019 20:43

magnesium one hour before bedtime
plenty of fluids throughout the day
flight socks

We have a hand held shower attachment, I sit on the edge of the bath and run hot shower water over my legs. It is so painful.

Cosmogirl86 · 06/04/2019 20:47

What dosage of magnesium should I look for? I'm definitely going to get some bananas tomorrow too. I'll try anything at this point!

This is amazing and all you need is a few sprays

Are you taking these too

Definitely bananas, and a hot water bottle

blitzen · 06/04/2019 21:08

Try using Epsom salts in the bath. I buy 10kg a time from a company on eBay called hexeal chemicals. The magnesium does you good.

Cosmogirl86 · 06/04/2019 21:37

Is magnesium safe? I have been taking pregnacare for years!

An Epson salt bath might help! I am dreading bed every night now

Oh I had this terribly. One lasted so long and I was lying on the floor screaming in agony my husband nearly called an ambulance.

Bananas and tonic water both help although I don’t think you are meant to drink too much of the tonic water. I also found zero high 5 electrolyte tabs helped as they had magnesium.

Not wearing heels during the day at all helped or walking up hills. My office required a 15 minute walk uphill and on my working days the cramps were far worse - could also be linked to moving around less during the day. Lots of fluids helped too. Dehydration really made them worse.

During a cramp I tried spoonfuls of apple vinegar which is meant to help. Not sure it did. Drinking a pint of ice cold water helped but it may be that it just distracted me and so I relaxed a bit. It was always the first thing DH grabbed! Of course stretching the cramp out is the main way to relieve them and doing stretches before bed helped too.

Good luck, it was the worst thing about pregnancy for me!

MulderitsmeX · 06/04/2019 21:44

Oh god yes to magnesium! I got the spray from h&b and spray it every night after my shower before bed and again when i got cramps. Cleared it right up.

Also when you have them stand on a cold floor like a tiled bathroom floor eith bare feet. It's something to do with the cold and putting pressure on your feet and it-s a great short term fix before spraying.

ivykaty44 · 06/04/2019 21:45

A tiny amount of vinegar on your tongue

Teddybear45 · 06/04/2019 22:04

Coconut water really helps mine. Also walking through the pain.

Cosmogirl86 · 07/04/2019 09:04

Last night I made sure to drink more water than normal, plus I had a glass of tonic water. I didn't cramp last night so I think dehydration might be a trigger for me!

Thank you ladies, I'm going to try all these ideas.

Just popping back to give a quick update. It turns out that I have a clot in my left leg! On clexane injections now and hopefully that'll put stop to the cramps

goodness me.
great you went to get medical advice and are getting treatment.

it's good to see medical advice if you have unexplained one sided pain.
