Pregnancy bras

I'm 16 weeks and still wearing my usual underwired bras, which still seem to be a decent fit (I lost a couple of stone in the four months before I got pregnant so that might be part of it). When am I supposed to swap to maternity bras? I bought Bravado bodysilk bras on everyone's recommendation when I had DS five years ago and hated them, so I'm not in a rush.

I'm 27 weeks and still wearing my old bras - although I mostly wear loose sports bras as I find them so comfy. Not sure you ever necessarily need to go maternity bra, but might depend on your size. I'm a 34b - or at least I was - so not huge.

I wore Molke bras throughout my recent pregnancy and they were okay for breastfeeding. They are wire free but actually quite supportive

stayhomeclub · 06/04/2019 21:08

I bought a few normal underwire bras in bigger sizes when needed and a Molke - I was v sceptical but I’ve been surprised how supportive it is, I mostly wear it at night though. I’ve just ordered another one for day wear now I’m near 30 weeks.

Those that wear Molke bras, would you recommend them for larger busts? I'm somehwere around a 36G at the moment and going to need to ditch the underwires soon as they are driving me mad!

Im 31 weeks and mostly wearing sports type bras and bralettes at this stage - D/DD cup before pregnancy and desperate to feel comfortable now.

Triskaidekaphilia · 07/04/2019 01:05

You can wear them until they no longer fit. Wires are only really an issue if the bra doesn't fit well. I was a 30gg and I've leapt up in sizes so far. Didn't have time for a proper fit last time I popped into bravissimo but looks like I'm 34hh or 36h now! I do have a Tu crop top thing that fits well and cost £3 though, wish I'd bought more!

I got ‘measured’ by mothercare the other week - completely crap, bras I was sold have gone back as they don’t fit and gave no support whatsoever. Used an online guide to getting measured and bought some from the John Lewis website (couple of their own brand and a couple but Royce) but sent them back as too uncomfortable too.

I think the issue is I’ve not work a bra without wiring since I was a very young teen and so only feel comfortable and well supported with wires. I’m now getting by with my normal pre-pregnancy bras until I go away in 3 weeks time and can get to a branch of Bravissimo to be measured and buy some better sizes underwire bras that will let me a bit longer.

I'm a 32E/F and am still in my regular underwired slightly more generously cupped bras at 30+6. I tried on some M&S maternity ones and hated them. Will be wearing my underwired until I feel I really need to trade out. I find the fit to be excellent and they're still comfy. No point in switching out yet. I really didn't find the maternity ones to be supportive enough.

37 weeks and still in my old bras, just with a back extender. My breasts don't seem to have grown yet...! I've been measured and fitted st mothercare, M&S, John Lewis and Debenhams, but nothing they've put me in fits as well, and they all look disgustingly frumpy! I bought a 5 pack of back extenders from Amazon and they allow for the extra space perfectly.

Leleophants · 07/04/2019 10:21

I got maternity bras at 8 weeks as had such discomfort. Do it when works for you. And yes, they look frumpy! But they feel amazing.

TokenGinger · 07/04/2019 10:26

I'm a 36E and I had to swap to a soft bra at around 20 weeks. The weight of my breasts on top of the wire then digging in to the top of my tummy was agony.

I'm 31 weeks now and can't wear a wired bra for more than a few hours.

I didn't buy maternity bras though. I bought some soft cup bras from Asda.

olderthanyouthink · 07/04/2019 13:08

I was a 28D and ballooned through a few cup sizes before I hit 12 weeks Shock so I got a Calvin Klein crop top type bras the had room for more expansion. By the end I could have worn the next size up I think but I didn't bother because I didn't think I would grow much more until baby was born.

Think I'm a FF now, 4 month pp and breastfeeding

emwithme · 07/04/2019 13:23

I was a (BoB) measured 34H before pregnancy. At 24 weeks I was a 38HH and had to move away from wires because they just weren't comfortable with my bump. I switched to Molke and haven't looked back. DD is now 4 months, EBF and I'm currently measuring as a 36J and still love my Molke!

stayhomeclub · 07/04/2019 17:02

katmarie I’ve changed from a 32DD to a 32F/G and have found Molke to be great support wise.

LouB1990 · 07/04/2019 17:48

Hey, I have only just started wearing maternity bras at 35 weeks. If you want to get some but not pay a fortune. Primark have got x2 maternity bras for £10 they are pretty good x
