Weight Gain

Now I know I'm pregnant... however I am really not enjoying my new fuller shape at the moment. I'm 17 weeks and pre pregnancy I ate very well and exercised regularly staying in shape. Since becoming pregnant I've not kept up any exercise and lived off pringles, Easter eggs and cheese toasties. I don't have a prominent bump yet but none of my clothes are fitting and even the ones that are don't look nice as I've gained weight all over especially my legs and love handles! I know it's my own fault but do you think it's possible to undo some of the damage over the last 3 months and get the rest of my body back under control and shape my legs/arms again so that it's only the bump where I'm carrying my weight or have I just got to live with being chubbier all over from now on?

Sounds like my last pregnancy and I would say even if you can't undo the damage at this stage, it would be wise to eat as healthy as you can from now on to try to limit the amount of unnecessary weight you put on.

I wouldn't worry about undoing the damage, rather focus on picking up good habits for the second half and a bit of your pregnancy. As your bump gets bigger, you'll start to feel more pregnant which will help you accept your body's changes.

Like you I was very active - lots of running and classes - pre pregnant and ate a healthy vegan diet. Now I eat an awful lot of bread and pastry, and I only do maybe 25 mins in the gym twice a week, and try to walk a few miles a day. You just have to accept your body is going to change, and that you need to take care of it, because growing a person is hard work!

I think you can defo claw it back! I've overdone it in my first trimester too! Healthy choices and some moderate exercise and you'll feel better about your shape x

I always said I would never do exactly what I have done! So annoyed with myself! Time to start doing some meal prep and getting back to some exercise!! Need to remind myself it's for the baby and not just myself!

I am the same at the moment! But in my first pregnancy I found I ate much better and was more active in second trimester, in third trimester I struggled to eat much as had terrible indigestion, and actually got told off for not growing enough (but still had a 9lbs baby!!)
Post baby I had all the weight off in 5 months, just by walking lots and running a bit- I think it does all level out!!

Prenatal yoga is good.

Can also start replacing the junk with vegetables but that’s easier said than done.

I feel you, OP... I just ate an Easter egg for breakfast Blush

Don't be hard on yourself, the first trimester seems to be hardest when it comes to food choices because of morning sickness and food aversion. But at least you have the trimester over with now and have realised and are ready to make a change Smile

I am in the exact same position OP. And I have s babymoon coming up next month!! I booked it thinking I would have my lovely pre-pregnancy figure just with a neat round baby bump but NO, thanks to eating my way through my pregnancy so far. And massively cutting my gym efforts (to be fair, in the 1st trimester I was way too tired and nauseated! But now there is no excuse) I will be on holiday in a bikini looking like I ate all the pies!!!

I have gigantic thighs and back fat. NIGHTMARE! I, like you, always pictured myself as a super healthy active pregnant person but it just hasn’t happeend & I am really insecure about my shape and size now. Particularly as I’m not properly showing. I just look really chubby!

purplemama1990 · 09/04/2019 16:36

I've always been on the slimmer side, and I've never been able to gain weight before really. I'm 26 weeks now and gained 28 lbs already, and it is a shock to me to see my body like this. It's not the bump that's bothering me, it's the thighs and bum, and my face too. My face has ballooned right up, and it's scaring me that I still have another 14 weeks to go... just how big am I going to get?!

My diet hasn't really changed since pre-pregnancy, I tend to eat somewhat healthy anyway, just the occasional snacking and I don't eat all that much. If anything, I've started eating healthier by snacking on fruit and yoghurt. I never used to eat fruit at all before.

I never used to exercise at all, except for walking. I've recently started exercising, doing pregnancy pilates and cardio few times a week to try and keep fit and strong for labour, prevent back pain, and to slow down the weight gain... but it hasn't helped at all.

I think I just have to accept my body isn't mine anymore, and there's no preventing the weight gain. I'll just focus on losing it after the baby is born, hopefully my body goes back to the type that burns calories easier and can't store fats.

I'm the same! I'm 15 weeks and no bump yet as it would appear I'm carrying baby in my chin(s) and tops of my arms. Gained 8lb so far but this was a honeymoon baby and I already gained 10lb on honeymoon so I feel like a big fat flump! However first trimester I felt sick alllllll the time and eating was the only thing to fix it, hoping I can start eating healthy again and lose my chins and arm flab 😳!
