Morning sickness starting at 13 weeks??

Hi all. I'm exactly 13 weeks today.

Had quite bad heartburn last night so took some Gaviscon before going to bed.
I woke up with a terrible migraine in the middle of the night and took high doses of co-codamol at 2am and 6am, on an empty stomach (though this is not unusual for me). Managed to get some more sleep.

Woke up hours later still with pain in my head but not as severe as during the night.
Husband made me a jam sandwich as I was feeling a bit peckish.

Took one bite, promptly felt very nauseous and realised I was going to vomit. Didn't even make it to the toilet in time so had to grab the bin!

This is the first time I have vomited during this pregnancy so far and to be honest I thought I was out of the woods.
I got some nausea only in weeks 6-7 and usually only heartburn since then. I do get a bit nauseous if I haven't eaten.

Has anyone else had morning sickness start this late for them? I'm gutted, I have been signed off work due to my migraines and I'm due to go back in a week, I'd hoped I'd feel better in my second trimester!

Or maybe the vomiting was a one off due to a combination of migraine/taking painkillers/heartburn.

I guess it's impossible to tell at this stage. I just wanted to rant really. This pregnancy has been miserable so far and late onset morning sickness would just be the cherry on the cake! :(

Similar experience, but no enlightening answer; I was somewhat nauseous (without vomiting) from week 4-10. Thought I’d made it through, then at week 13 nausea returned and I ended up being sick. I did have a bad cold at the time so don’t know if that impacted. I’ve not been sick since (a week later) but have felt more nauseous again and the idea of certain foods has made me gag.

p.s. also having a lot of migraines so I sympathise!

@SRK16 Oh poor you I'm sorry you've been suffering as well :( it's horrible isn't it? As if the migraines aren't bad enough!
I'm hoping this is a one off but I'm not getting my hopes up. Feeling very nauseous now, don't think it'll be long until I vomit again today.

Maybe you need an antiemetic for your migraines? A lot of people do and most OTC migraine medicines include one. Although I'd get Drs advice in pregnancy

popcorndiva · 06/04/2019 12:32

Exact thing happened to me. Woke up the day after my 12 week scan to what felt like an extreme sick bug. Spent all day running back and to the toilet being sick. Unfortunately I was sick then right up to giving birth. It sucked and hated anyone telling me it would stop when it never did

faelavie · 06/04/2019 12:33

Just chucked up again, oh joy!

@ShabbyAbby I don't usually vomit during my migraines so this is quite unusual for me. I am on preventative medication but no anti-emetic. I will have to phone the GP on Monday though if the vomiting continues over the weekend. I'm a nurse and can't go back to work chucking up :(

@popcorndiva I'm so sorry you went through that, it sounds awful! Did anything help you at all? Anti-emetics etc? I'm not sure if I could deal with this all the way to October Confused

@faelavie

Pregnancy hormones can make migraines worse, though. Mine have a bigger nausea element to them in pregnancy. Normally I at most feel sick, whereas in pregnancy I actually throw up. I have HG in pregnancy and mine gets worse in second trimester, not better, especially if I'm stressed or tired.

Might also be the lurgy?

AbbieLexie · 06/04/2019 13:06

Sickness started at about 11 weeks and continued till I delivered my daughter. She kindly came over 3 weeks early. Important to keep fluids up.

faelavie · 06/04/2019 13:08

@ShabbyAbby Yeah I know unfortunately, I've been suffering with the migraines almost daily since my 5th week. This is the first day I've thrown up though, so it seems very strange. I'd like to believe it's just a stomach bug, that would actually be a relief! Can't think of anything that would've upset my stomach though it's possible.

@AbbieLexie oh god that's awful you poor thing, how did you cope?? So far I've thrown up on the hour and can't get out of bed without feeling like I'm gonna spew, not sure how I'll manage work like this for 6 months if the same happens to me

I was given sickness tablets but they didn't help. I kind of got used to it. I would just run to the toilet at work and someone would quickly cover for me. Melon helped as kept my fluids up as it was the awful heatwave as well

faelavie · 06/04/2019 13:28

@popcorndiva ugh you poor thing, well done you for coping... I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed and see what happens over the next few days Confused

Worked as late as I could so I could have a longer mat leave. It just became normal! Sleep was a problem - often woke up cuddling the toilet or because I was uncomfortable. Colleagues kept a toilet free for my mad dash during working hours. Kept drinking water - lived on complan and build-up.

faelavie · 06/04/2019 16:34

@AbbieLexie Well done you for getting through that. I'm not sure if I have the strength!

Well it's now 4.30pm and I've vomited every 1-2 hours. It has not been a fun day. No idea where its all coming from as I can't keep water down!

I remember it well. Sips of very cold water. Some of it will be absorbed. You have my sympathy.

faelavie · 06/04/2019 21:23

I'm still vomiting. There's streaks of blood in it now, I guess I tore my oesophagus or throat. The vomiting itself is crazy violent..... Fuck, who goes to work like this? I can hardly move out of the bed!
