what Birth options to choose from ?

This is my first post so please bear with me. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I have been given the choice of having a C-section or being induced at 40 weeks on my due date. Was asking if any one has had both options and has a preference or option, as I'm still unsure. The reason for the C-section is due to an old hip injury which can cause a lot pain.

You alway have the right to refuse either of these options if you wanted to.

Teddybear45 · 06/04/2019 07:58

If they gave you the option because of a hip injury it must be serious enough to have them concerned right? I’d choose the section. No need to suffer needlessly.

TrixieFranklin · 06/04/2019 08:13

Having done both, I would go for the section.

Pigriver · 06/04/2019 08:15

I’d choose a section as I was induced with my first. It took 3 days and ended up with forceps and episiotomy in theatre. I was utterly exhausted as I’d not slept in all tha time. DS was born at 2am and then I was wheeled up to the ward and left to get on with it and Dh was sent home.
I think birth is painful enough as it is without exacerbating an existing injury that will cause more pain.

DailyMailSucksWails · 06/04/2019 08:42

Why would the hip injury affect you during a vaginal birth? Are you in chronic constant pain?
There are other options. You don't have to say yes to being induced at 40 weeks. It's your body. You could refuse & wait for a spontaneous birth (if you preferred that).
Lots of people love their C-sections.
Idea of having CS or induction horrifies me, though.
It really is a personal choice.

Hi , I don’t know to be honest ... my cousin has had a hip replacement and waiting on a 2nd and managed a vaginal birth.

But her pain tolerance is off the charts, and she broke her fixed hip during process

Considering I thought my hips
We’re going to explode during child birth and the amount of stretching they need to do I would possibly consider c section as forceps seems like a worse option for the baby if they needed too.

Just try to make sure you have help as the first few weeks after c section is going to be tough x x

Thqb k you for the advice so far. To repley to Daily mail. They have said I can give birth naturally but are unsure how the hip will cope, could be fine, could not be. They have said it's my choice but have given the two options as a choice they think will work.

Is your hip problem due to the hip joint ligaments?

Has pregnancy been aggravating your hip all the way thru? The hormones that make your ligaments stretchy are already there in full dose by now, anyway (afaik)

Hopefully someone else with hip problems can advise, I have a history of groin muscle strain but not hip problems (neither hips nor groin muscles were aggravated by my vag births, though). My lower back was affected, though (eek).

There's no moral value in how you give birth. Just consider what will be easiest to get thru & recover from.

seeingdots · 06/04/2019 11:41

Why wouldn't they want you to go past 40 weeks if you were to decline the c-section?

Rainbow145 · 06/04/2019 12:29

They have said that the pressure of going over could cause more problems to my hip and aggregate my asthma symptoms which are a lot worse when in pain or stressed.

I have chronic hip pain and sacro-illiac joint pain from my service in the forces. I've had two natural labours, no pain relief, and were only 1.5hrs each time. I'm currently 37 weeks with number 3 and planning another normal delivery. I know the pain sucks, trust me I do I'm in agony, but if you want to have a natural birth you can 😊!

Other than that I can't give advice on an induction/ section as I've never had either. Hopefully all goes well, and you find something you ade comfortable with.

CookPassBabtridge · 06/04/2019 13:58

Section every time.

Ginger1982 · 06/04/2019 14:08

Given it's your first, I would say section. I was induced with my first which didn't work and I ended up with an emergency section. If I was having another I wouldn't chose a section given I'd already have a toddler to cope with but for your first, do it.

Teddybear45 · 06/04/2019 15:56

I’m surprised they’re even giving you the option if you have Asthma too. It’s usually section only.

Floralnomad · 06/04/2019 15:58

Having had one vaginal birth and one elective section I’d go for the section every time .

HJWT · 06/04/2019 17:11

@Rainbow145 My mum has back and hip problems (Hip dysplasia) and had 5 natural births! Not sure if your situation is similar xx

Rainbow145 · 06/04/2019 17:15

Thank you all for your replies, it has really helped me to make a decision, I think I'm going to go for the C-section, as I feel that's the best option for me.
