Is the Sleepyhead worth it?

How often do you use it? Where/when do you use it?

We've got a next2mecrib and a swing so far, between those/pram/us we thought we had it covered for naps but keep seeing these.

Probably not, you have to practice safe sleeping and some heal visitors see them as a SIDS risk.

SherlockSays · 05/04/2019 17:53

I really went back and forth about getting a sleepyhead - I decided not to in the end and we were fine. I think they end up being another sleep crux that you then have to wean baby off when they get bigger .. unless you have mega bucks to buy the next size up.

As another person has said, they're not classified as being SIDS safe although I know most people use them for overnight sleep.

Nowthenforever2019 · 05/04/2019 17:54

We couldn't have done without ours and there was no problem weaning dd off it when she was too big, though I was worried it might be tough. We used it loads and loads and it's in good enough nic to use with our next baby

LashesZ · 05/04/2019 17:54

Nah, it's just another thing to clutter your house and wean them off if they become attached. I can see that they may work - but I swaddled instead.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 05/04/2019 17:54

I believe they are no longer sold in the US due to safety concerns.

My baby is 14 weeks and she’s slept in one every night so far. I love it and am dreading her growing out of it!

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2019 17:56

You’re not meant to use it unsupervised so probably not

Habbs · 05/04/2019 17:58

Mixed reviews then.. hmmm

I've been talking about this today actually and a lot of mums seem to say don't bother. Plus apparently someone said you aren't meant to use them at night as you shouldn't leave the baby in one unsupervised so I'm not going to get one.

gg96cgp · 05/04/2019 19:07

We've used it for both of our children. Really helped them feel cosy at night.

Lizbiz89 · 05/04/2019 19:10

I used one for my daughter and i even bought the bigger one when she got older. She loved it and it was the only thing she'd sleep in. But not for everyone. Maybe see what your baby sleeps like first. My daughter wasn't the best sleeper so she was definitely safer in the sleepyhead than falling asleep in my arms.

sar302 · 05/04/2019 19:19

When we did the research before buying one, the Sleepyhead was specifically excluded from the group of similar items that were identified as a SIDS risk. However, that is now information that is two years old, so best to double check.

Our DS loved his. Napped in it during the day (and used it as a travel cot when we went away). Slept in it, inside his next to me when he was really tiny. When he outgrew it, we just put him straight into the next to me and he didn't even notice! However we were also using love to dream swaddle bags, so he probably still felt nice and compressed..

Jinglejanglefish · 05/04/2019 19:22

We love ours, bought it second hand and had no problems. She's six months and still uses it.

No cases of SIDS or suffocation have been linked to the sleepyhead, the only reason lullaby trust don't like it is because no research has actually be done.

Have you looked at the purflo ones? Much cheaper and then the size up lasts from 7 months to 3 years with the bottom untied

newhousestress · 05/04/2019 19:32

I decided against it, I didn't think they were safe. Their breathability tests looked bonkers. A lot of people seem to use them with unofficial covers or cover with muslins which aren't breathable. They appear to be a pain to clean if the baby is sick or a nappy leaks.

ZsaZsaMc · 05/04/2019 19:32

I would wait until baby is here. We bought one to use downstairs as a Moses basket alternative and our baby never ever slept in it (we had a baby that never liked to be put down ) so was a complete waste of money!!
