Late onset of gestational diabetes

There have been concerns over past 2 months that baby was growing on low side of normal. Finally got the all ok last week after a growth scan, which I think was helped by the fact baby has engaged so they could take measurements easily. Then got told I should’ve had GTT at 32 weeks but hospital missed the first instance of +1 glucose in urine, so I ended up having GTT at 35 weeks. Bloods have come back raised at 9 (7.8 is acceptable limit) so I’ve been booked in with gestational diabetes specialist and another scan next week at 37 weeks. I’ve been told by midwife to continue with existing diet (although I’m now consciously cutting down on chocolate!) until I see GD specialist. They have said they will be recommending that I don’t go past my due date. As my result wasn’t very high, and the fact they’re not rushing me in to see specialist, I’m hoping it’ll be a case of changing diet only. I’m wondering what difference can be made in final 3 weeks? Also worried of having to be induced and having a very medicalised birth (I was planning hospital birth anyway as first baby) so any positive experiences would be good to hear!

They can’t be that concerned if they haven’t booked you a c-section. Relax and try not to stress about it. I would also try to follow a diabetes-friendly diet if possible; so higher in veg / nuts / good fats / proteins / whole carbs and more controlled in processed carbs / sugar (including fruit)

That's later than many places would even do a GTT, blood sugar control is not great at the end of pregnancy in many women. However take it seriously, My GTT at 33 weeks showed a higher end of normal result. I started monitoring myself and was on insulin 10 days later as I became very very carb intolerant very quickly.
Induced at 37 weeks with signs of a failing placenta.
