I'm worried about my BMI and how this will impact my pregnancy. There are loads of associated risks with having a BMI over 30.

Just wondering what experiences people have had so far. I have my first midwifes app in 3 weeks so fully expecting to be told about these risks.

@Shiverrrrmetimbers Hopefully the midwife will prescribe me some. Getting an appointment with my GP is nigh on impossible!

@Lorna2019 ha thanks, but think it was my desperation to avoid an induction that powered me through the walk. It was over a few hours, stopped for lunch, then for cake. Forgot to mention, yes my midwife gave me the higher dose folic acid, and the 75mg aspirin too, although you can buy it from Superdrug for very little if you can't get down the chemist, or if they forget to prescribe it for you!

I did so much reading and scared myself about so much, but I'm sure you'll be fine like I was.

Ha! Thomas was awake and awake a fair bit in the night ... teething / hungry

But I napped this morning with him ... by some babies standards I am pretty lucky 🍀 he will sleep for 3 hour Stretches ...though I have a friend with a baby that slept through from day one.

pretty sure Thomas was awake unless in my arms at first so I slept an hour tops for the first 2 weeks !! )

It’s such an exciting time butit’s natural
To be concerned

If you do sick like me just carry food bags
To throw up in it was dubious if
I was going to reach the loo and the nausea was also intense to be that just before throwing up feeling so you couldn’t prepare for it . You will also be surprised how much people don’t notice .. so don’t worry.. I would be in staff meetings palemdry heaving and my boss never picked up
On it ... would still expect normal
Participation 🙄

Fingers crossed you don’t get it the same though and are one of those
Mums that just glow x x

@Middlrm Haha! I love that, retching in to a plastic bag. Oh what a way to spend your days!

Thomas sounds lovely, I'm glad he's a good baby, you deserve it. Every baby is different I suppose. My best friends first was a dream, her second not so much! She is a sleep deprived zombie but the best Mum I know!

Absolutely will not be a Mum that glows. I'm the kind of girl that goes on a night out in trainers. I will probably have pens keeping my hair up cos I can't find a bobble and balancing a bowl of pasta on my bump as I dribble food down my top!

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee Ah thank you so much!

I'm still impressed with the walk. I'm glad there was a cake incentive x

This is such a lovely thread I am due in mid December and now the worrying about getting pregnant has become worrying about staying pregnant/being a plus sized pregnant person.
My BMI is 43 and I got the doctors to prescribe me the 5mg folic acid before we started trying, they hadn't heard of it but it is on the NHS website. I have never heard to the aspirin but now am thinking of buying it although I am asthmatic so not sure about how I react to aspirin.
People who were big in pregnancy did you show later? Were you able to not show even if you lost weight? I am hoping to lose weight as the baby grows because I don't really want to tell work until my 20 week scan... Although not sure how I am going to do all the appointments...

I only gained 7kg I think, maybe 8 and the evening after DS was born i was already back to my booking in weight, DS was a sturdy 10lb 11 though. I didn't have much morning sickness, i just couldn't eat as much as I used to. I've actually put on more weight after even though I'm breastfeeding, nothing to do with my brownie and choc chip shortbread habit mind!

But I didn't have a noticeable bump untill really late on, like 36 weeks, and even then, it was still B shaped rather than D shaped, its my biggest regret despite being able to do nothing about it! I was a size 22 before, I'm still that size almost 7 months on, although I feel that my face is thinner than before. I felt i just looked extra fat, but my DH maintains I looked very pregnant!

@Soexciting I woke up this morning and I couldn't sleep. I was reading the website recommended on this thread.

plussizebirth.com

Also, I searched the #plussizepregnancy on Instagram because I was worried that I'd just look fat rather than pregnant. But there were people that were bigger than I with clearly visible bumps and they looked amazing. I think you might struggle to hide a 20 week bump!

My sister is a size 10 and she is 8 months pregnant, she got GD and weighs less now than before. I'm going to continue to do SW to make sure I maintain a low sugar diet in a bid to reduce GD and make sure I'm as healthy as I can be - I'm 5 weeks tomorrow. Feels like it will take forever to get to 12.
