Hey. I just wanted to know any mums who had back to back pregnancies and what your experience was like ? Did you have complications, did baby come early etc? What was it like for you ?

Not me but my Mum had 2!
Not premature (7 and 1 day late) and normal labour lengths - 10 and 7 hours or something?
She swears she didn’t find it particularly tough and didn’t realise until after her first birth it wasn’t the normal way round babies are! Smile

DS2 was back to back and I delivered him that way. He was ten days late. Labour was fast and more painful than DC1 but I still managed with jus gas and air and a tens machine so not too bad. The pregnancy was yuck but that had nothing to do with his position, I just threw up for 42 weeks, otherwise it was all straightforward. I didn't have a 3rd for financial reasons but it would not have put me off having a third.

My first was back to back and baby no.2 is on the way, so although it wasn’t ideal I must be over it. The Labour was painful, but I don’t really have anything to compare it to.

Why are you asking OP?

Shahlalala · 03/04/2019 21:21

Because I have been advised about how to help the baby turn in the run up (anterior placenta again), so there are things you can do to try and avoid it if you are worried about it.

All 3 of mine where back to back so midwife said that's why labour was more painful at the end

Spanneroo · 03/04/2019 22:49

I've had two back to back labours, both at 40+2. Both precipitate labours but with no complications. I didn't require pain relief for either, though I don't know if it would be less painful with baby facing the other way.

There's a good article about this on midwifethinking which I found helpful.

My first was back to back and I had an epidural but still bad discomfort in my upper abdomen during and in between contractions. It was my longest labour but really think that was just as he was my first. I had no pain (thanks to epidural) when I was pushing but did need forceps in the end to get him out. X

Both mine were back to back. Quite fast. At 7/8cm within a couple of hours. Lots of pain in your back. Tens machine was great at the start. Just had gas and air. Coped fine.
Dd1 was due date. Dd2 was +6 days.

cranberrymoon · 03/04/2019 23:23

Doesn't OP mean having a baby and getting pregnant v quickly against n afterwards? Rather than the back to back position of the baby?

Justus22 · 03/04/2019 23:33

@cranberrymoon I don't think so as not sure what would prompt OP to ask of labour length/complications in relation to two pregnancies close together iyswim as they'd surely not be determined by subsequent pregnancies? X

cranberrymoon · 03/04/2019 23:42

@Justus22 oh I don't know but wouldn't you ask about a back to back labour rather than pregnancy as the baby is likely to move throughout the pregnancy?
And there are chances of complications if you have babies close together especially if you've had a c section first time etc.

Justus22 · 04/04/2019 12:36

@cranberrymoon I'm sure OP will say if we've all misinterpreted but the way I read it was that she was referring to labour. If it was re having subsequent pregnancy immediately I imagine op would have asked about recovery, and spoken of the age gap and for experience having two so close together that aren't twins. X

Dueinnov19 · 04/04/2019 14:40

My dd was back to back ... It took me almost 4 days to dilate fully, had epidural but after hour of pushing and a few scans to show she wasnt turning they gave me full spinal block.

I was taken down to surgery for a possible c section however with ventouse and forceps they managed to turn her and pull her out within 3 contractions.

Not something I want to experience again but will have to see what this one brings!

Ha yes I was doubting myself but that's what I thought when I first read it.
I was just told after my first section to wait a year to fully heal before having another baby.

Honey1994 · 13/04/2019 10:25

@cranberrymoon haha bless nah you read it right. Just my Terrible typo not explaining properly.
Yeah I heard about a year.
Definitely no more babies after this 😂 everything is ok so far. But praying it all remains great especially when it comes to birth x
