Pushchair - all terrain wheels

FineFanks · 02/04/2019 13:53

I watch a pushchair I can use on dog walks, in long grass or woodlands.

I have been recommended the Mamas & Papas Ocarro which I love.

Someone has also recommended the Joolz Day 3, which looks nice but I havent have a chance to go and check out yet.

Does anyone have any advice on either of these 2? Which did you pick and why?

Also welcome suggestions of others that might be suitable.

My main criteria is the all-terrain wheels, also want a decent amount of storage in basket underneath, for when I pop to the shops etc.

Thanks!

My brother has a mountain buggy which is brilliant. They live in a middle of nowhere and it saw them through all 3 children. It'll be what I will buy in a few months all being well!

We have the Joie Crosster. It’s been brilliant for us as we live on a yard and I walk the dog all over the place. 3 rubber wheels (so no punctures), suspension, a hand brake for steep hills & a large basket underneath. I love ours but I was never interested in getting a ‘designer’ pram. You may feel differently.

I have an out n about. It's great.

We have a Mountain Buggy Swift and love it. Will be using it again this time. It works well 'off road', is very maneuverable, can be used from birth up to about 2.5-3 years, folds easily and fits in our Fiesta.

Baby Jogger City mini GT - on DC2 and still love it

I have the Stokke Trailz, absolutely amazing! It’s a Norwegian brand so made for hilly, uneven surface terrain yet is really light to push and the quality is brilliant. The price is steep but I got a grey one in the January sales for £750

Thanks, all.

Lots of suggestions!

I was hoping to narrow down my choices but now I have even more. Great though, that I now have a list to go out and test-try!

Wouldn’t touch the Ocarro with a barge pole for anything that remotely resembles off-road. We have a Buffalo which is absolutely fine for woodland/grassy walks, but I also REALLY rate the city mini GT - unlike the Out’n’About, and I think some of the mountain buggies (which are also great, practical prams) it has no-puncture wheels so it’s totally bombproof. I take it all over the place. It just WORKS, whereas the Bugaboo always had little niggles which irritated me.

But realistically, you may well find that a decent carrier does the job much better - ergobaby, lillebaby, Tula, connecta etc. Infinitely less of a faff when walking a dog - two hands free, no worries about brakes, baby comes with you when clambering over tree trunks to get to that errant poo that needs picking up...

Wouldn’t touch the Ocarro with a barge pole for anything that remotely resembles off-road. Tell me why, so I know what to look out for. I just looked the wheels and thought they were really good.

Our City Mini GT is fantastic off road. I take it on dog walks and it easily handles the forest tracks and going off road through the trees and across grass and uneven surfaces.

I love my out n about nippa! We got it in double size for my incoming twins

Phillipa12 · 03/04/2019 12:40

The pre 2010 mountain buggy is far superior to the newer models, i had the old version and when i went to upgrade i ended up with a baby jogger summit x3 instead. Basically you want big wheels with the option of fixing the front wheel, check out the thule, its a beast but its also a dream to push both on and off road.

1busybee · 03/04/2019 12:41

Try an emmaljunga - made in Sweden amazing quality and definitely off road capable.

INeedNewShoes · 03/04/2019 13:29

Jane all terrains are good. The wheels are non-puncture.

They don't have the biggest basket but I've felt that's a worthwhile trade off.

We have the Jane Epic which has coped well with fields, woodland, rough tracks. It's their middle of the range compromise of compact but hardy.

The Jane Crosswalk is a step further on in the all terrain stakes and the Trider has the single front wheel.

I had a pre 2010 mountain buggy, it was indestructible, we took it over downs, actually up mountains as well as around town.

We have a Mountain Buggy Terrain purchased in 2015. It’s amazing. My son is nearly 4 and he still fits comfortably in it (and he’s a big lad)! We swapped to rubber wheels, but think they come as standard now? We live by the beach - it does grass, hills, sand, tarmac - you name it. It is bulky, but I can’t fault it.

PBobs · 03/04/2019 23:14

Mountain Buggy all the way. We have a swift because I needed something very lightweight and small. But their terrain model is great too.

Kintan · 03/04/2019 23:18

Another recommendation for Mountain Buggy. We have the urban jungle plus one model and it is good for both city and country, and has very generous storage :)

RainbowMum11 · 03/04/2019 23:24

I found the Uppababy Vista excellent for walking on different terrains. It's easy to steer with 1 hand, brilliant shopping basket, but also really good in the countryside & on pavements.

purpleme12 · 03/04/2019 23:35

Babyjogger city mini GT. Absolutely recommend it. Lasted years. In fact I'd still use it now if I could. And worked brilliantly, walked on so many country walks, rocky hilly surfaces etc etc etc. I miss it!
