I seem to spend all the time worrying at the moment - I thought it was supposed to be easier with your second....

I went to the dr at the start of the week and after the scan, he said the baby was a few days smaller then he expected and has changed my dates by 4 days. He said everything looked ok but I noticed i my notes he has made a mark to control the development in the next appointmet.....I am now almost 12 weeks.

My problem is I didn't have this in my first pregnancy so I'm wondering how normal this is?? I don't have to worry about the baby not grpwing properly?

Thanks

I had the same thing happen to me but the other way around. My baby was bigger than expected for the normal dates. They also noted it down so that next time they could see whether it was still bigger or if it was the "normal" size for the dates.

I have equally had friends who have had their due date move the other way, like yours.

My obsetrician said not to worry about it a bit. The original dates they give you are just based on the first day of your last period and assume that you will be pregnant for 40 weeks and you have a 28 day cycle. The reality is that this isn't the case for most people, so it isn't an exact science at all. It may be that you conceived your baby slightly after the absolute mid point in the month which would account for the different days.

It is very very normal for them to change the dates when they can actually measure the baby so don't worry!

from my previous obstetric history, i know i ovulate very earlr...around day 7. as such my due date from my scan is always around a week earlier than due date from period. it's not an exact science and nothing to worry about at this stage of your pregnancy.

your mw/gp/consultant will always go with the date from the scan as this is deemed the most accurate in dating your pregnancy.
