Im new to this so here goes ladies! This is my first pregnancy, Im 20+2, due August 18th with a little boy :) but I was wondering if anyone else has suffered with eczema during their pregnancy??? I've always suffered with it but since being pregnant it's flared up ALOT and now irritates the life out of me, especially now as its on my nipples and making them weep. Doctors have just prescribed me creams that aren't doing a good job really .. just wondering if anyone has any home remedies or used things to help them that have eased it??? X

Sorry I have no solutions but just wanted to say I am having the same problem but on my hands. They are constantly burning and weeping and it's driving me insane, I hope someone comes along with some suggestions! I've been using sudocrem but it only helps so much 😣 Need to go to GP, but as Betnovate is the only thing that usually helps and I know I can't use that I don't hold out much hope!

I've found that porridge oats in a bath help if you put them into a muslin cloth and let it soak into your bath eases it, maybe try that with your hands! Also tried aveeno, that was a life saver but now my skin is just used to it, typical! I hope you get your problem solved with your hands soon, my mum suffered with the same she used to sleep with her hands in cotton gloves covered in cream x

I’ve had eczema all my life and have also had a bad flare up since being pregnant and going to the gp soon for it. The only cream that works for me is hydrocortisone, I’ve been researching and it’s safe to use in pregnancy (the mild one from pharmacies) and you can use it on your nipples. The NHS says to wipe it off before breast feeding, apart from that it’s ok. I’d still speak to your gp or a pharmacist first

tam9leo · 01/04/2019 20:58

@Peacock14 I'll have to buy it and give it a go then thank you! It's terrible lately I'm going through bra's for the fun of it these days, I'm normally okay with my eczema but lately it's unbearable a constant itch that doesn't leave and always in my sweaty areas haha!

Peacock14 · 01/04/2019 21:05

I feel you! Mines across my wrists, fingers and calves it drives me crazy at night! You can only get it from a pharmacy but the supermarket ones stock it and the pharmacist will be able to guide you. It’s a maximum use of 7 days usually but may be less for us

Hi, I gave up dairy last year after having bad eczema all my life (worse in pregnancy).

It has helped, a lot. Previously I didn't really believe food made a difference but I think it is one less factor in the "histamine bucket" ie you can only take so much histamine or inflammation in your body (stress also triggers eczema for me).

Could be worth a try for a month to see what happens?

tam9leo · 01/04/2019 21:20

@jamaisjedors hi lovely! I went 3 months without dairy along side my brother who suffers aswell, his eczema went and mine decided to stay haha! I noticed that even though they're bad for you the sun beds helped a lot, I went on them once a week and it dried it out so I only used aveeno cream to help give it moisture and it soon went. With being pregnant now I don't use the sunbeds it's just with my hormones all over the show it's come back with a vengeance

tam9leo · 01/04/2019 21:22

@Peacock14 I'm the same haha, during the day it's okay but come night time it's just a constant itch, especially with my breast and nipples. Me and my partner went away for the weekend to wales recently and I found that even in the morning it had gone through my top and left marks on the white bed sheets where they had been weeping. Doctors just provide different creams but the more creams I try, the more it flares up and it's not used to all different creams

russiandwarf · 01/04/2019 21:40

Honestly I thought hands were bad but yours sounds awful especially while you were away! Argh! I don't know what it is about night time as well, maybe increased body heat? But yes it's definitely worse then, awful to wake up and realise you've scratched yourself raw 🥴 Some good info and suggestions here, I might try and give dairy a miss for a bit now I'm starting to feel less sick. Always a struggle, I just love cheese!

tam9leo · 01/04/2019 21:54

@russiandwarf it's a good job my partner is understanding about it and not a mard arse like other men anyway haha we had to laugh it off about the bed sheets, bathe the boobs and stick on a new bra haha! No dairy does work for most people but I'm the same, can't go a day without cheese and can't beat a good brew with full fat milk lol x

Saltisford · 01/04/2019 21:58

I have eczema - it hasn’t worsened in pregnancy so far but has anyone tried dream cream from Lush? I find it to be pretty soothing and steroid free x

russiandwarf · 01/04/2019 23:00

Ooh really? I'll try anything at this point! Today I've been using a vitamin e cream and so far so good 🤞

tam9leo · 02/04/2019 09:59

@Saltisford I haven't tried that, I have been told about it but still need to try. I've been prescribed that many different creams over time I have to give me skin a break as it isn't used to all different ones x

Claireb2203 · 02/04/2019 10:02

Mines awful too and so itchy. Why can't you use betnovate?
Apparantly child's farm moisturizers are brilliant for eczema going to give it a try

tam9leo · 02/04/2019 10:56

@Claireb2203 I've tried betnovate before it made no difference to my skin, for now I'm using aproderm and it's helping but I still have bad flares up especially on my boobs and it makes them so uncomfortable especially as they weep.. I find aswell that they try o heal themselves but then I have to peel myself out of my bras it's very painful Blush

Moominfan · 02/04/2019 11:01

Hello eczema is so fickle. What works for one won't always work for another. Porridge oats in bath, aveeno products and avoiding really hot water works for me

Claireb2203 · 02/04/2019 11:24

I've tried aveno and bodyshop but doent stop the itch and that's the bit that needs controlling. Hot water takes the itch away for me but obviously doesn't do your skin any good

russiandwarf · 02/04/2019 11:36

So this morning the GP told me Betnovate is ok now I'm past 12 weeks, so that's at least something. I've also been prescribed an antibiotic to clear up any infection as my hands are weeping, and a tablet that you mix with emollient to make an antibacterial wash which leaves some kind of moisturising residue behind. I've been there before with the boobs @tam9leo so I know how it is, peeling your bra off! I wish I had a good suggestion for you 😕 I think I've heard of people putting cabbage leaves in their bras before for soreness in breastfeeding- maybe this would work for weeping eczema?! It might at least stop you sticking to your bra?

Amy326 · 02/04/2019 11:40

Aveeno Dermexa has improved my dd’s eczema massively and we’ve tried every cream under the sun it feels like, including all the prescription ones. Make sure it’s the Dermexa one rather than just normal Aveeno (which is good but not as good as the Dermexa one). I got it in boots think it was £9.99
