Hi all.

Sorry if this has been covered before but would love some advice/info.

Recently found out that I was pregnant, overjoyed and can't wait wait. But, I'm very impatient. I'm currently sitting on 7 weeks (predicted from first day of last period) and won't have my first appointment with the midwife until 3rd May so I'll be 11 weeks)

At the first midwife appointment, what exactly happens? Do they offer you a scan? If not, what is the process of booking in a scan and how soon after the first appointment does this happen? The doctors wouldn't give me anymore information about the appointment other than "it'll take and hour"

It seems like ages until the 3rd May, and I'm terrified of MC so each week that passes I feel a week safer/closer to the lowest risk.

Thanks everyone :-)

The first appointment is often referred to as the booking in appointment. The midwife will take a lot of your medical history and information and that of the baby's father. They will fill out/print out all the notes and put them in your pregnancy notes pack/folder/booklet. They should also explain when the scan appointment should come through and what the next appointments are. If not then ask so that you're clear.

They will take blood weight height and ask a load of questions about your medical history background (like diabetes in the family, history of medical conditions etc)

The midwife should arrange your scan after the booking in appointment. As it need to be done before 14 weeks you may find it happens fairly fast after that!

It might be work ringing the dr back and saying as you'll be 11 weeks at your booking in and they usually like to see people between 8-10 weeks then maybe they can squeeze in your in earlier

We have a November thread Running if you want to join us! I'm due same time as you

You could book an earlier ‘reassurance’ scan if you wanted; just to make sure things are ticking over nicely. They cost around 50-100 pounds and women who go through IVF (or are considered higher risk) get them automatically.
