High temp at 13 weeks pregnant

Hello wanted some advice. I'm currently suffering with a sinus infection and hyperemesis gravidarum. It's really knocking me about and even writing this is taking a lot of my energy. I've never felt so poorly in my life, everything hurts/aches, vomiting all the time and everything that comes along with a sinus infection, you name it I've got that also including a high temperature of above 38°c or 100.4+ Fahrenheit. I went to the doctors last week and my doctor was going to prescribe me antibiotics but instead sent me to hospital for dehydration. Whilst there they didn't focus on my infection at all so never got anything for it and my temp was only 37.6°c whilst in the doctors but I've progressively gotten worse. Can barely move and I've been taking just one paracetamol to try help bring the temp down with no luck (I'm a bit scared of taking medication in pregnancy). I just wanted to know if anyone else is going through this? What you did to help it, if a high temp at 13 weeks is dangerous for the baby or me etc? Any advice or guidance welcome! Thank you

38x is high but not majorly high. Ring 111 for advice about your infection.

I would seek medical advice but in the meantime it is perfectly safe to take the full permitted dose of paracetamol for a short period of time.

I hope you feel better soon.

The temperature has the potential to do more harm than the correct dose of paracetamol does. However, I can assure you that I had a horrendous chest infection at 16 weeks, with a temp over 39 for an extended period of time and no one was too concerned - the six month old I am trying to peel myself away from currently is testament to the fact it did no real harm.

Don’t underdose yourself with paracetamol as it won’t be effective and you may as well not bother taking it!! It is perfectly safe in pregnancy and the adult recommended dose actually starts from quite a low weight if you were to calculate it in mg/kg (consider the age from which an adult dose is recommended for older children).

I would definitely speak to your GP surgery if you are no better or seem to be getting worse.

You need to follow paracetamol guidelines. Underdosing is probably as harmful to the baby as overdosing on medication.

I've started taking two paracetamols when I'm feeling really poorly, I read somewhere to take the lowest dose so I assumed it meant just one paracetamol but obviously got it very wrong! I went back to the doctors and been prescribed some medicines which have helped. Thanks for all your replies!
