Cervical length measurement

I'm due for my cervical length measurement scan next week... Just wondering if anybody has had this and did they also scan to see the baby or only look at the cervix length.
It doesnt really matter either way, I'm really just curious and desperate to see the baby again!

I had 3 of them and they always had a look at baby first and then did a check of my cervix after being sent for a wee.

I've had two, like the above poster said they do a quick baby scan then concentrate on the cervix Smile

For me they did it the other way around, cervix length internal first... baby scan after. The baby scan part she pushed down on my cervix to demonstrate that it didn’t open and then showed baby wriggling around.

Oh great, thank you. It'll be nice to have another look at the baby... And is it correct that they do it at 16 weeks and then again later on? How often should they be doing them?

My consultant said every three weeks, I’ve only been once so far. That way they can see if their are any changes, it’s only up until 24 weeks though and then you are discharged if you don’t need a stitch or injections. The injections are relatively new and apparently are just as good as the stitch (I had never heard of them before) but they are given daily if your cervix is shortening.
I’ve been at 15 weeks, because of how Easter falls I think my next isn’t until 19 weeks, then will have one more after this then hopefully be discharged!

Thank you, that's really helpful. Nobody has mentioned the injections to me. Didn't know that option existed... Good to know though. Has anybody had an issue with the measurements and required intervention? And was it sucessful? I'm really pretty terrified of preterm labour.

I only had the internal scans to check my cervix, never saw my DD other than the top of her head. My cervix started to shorten at around 23/24 weeks, they gave me progesterone pessaries to put in four times a day, then at 32 weeks I was signed off and made to rest and head was engaged and cervix soft. All was fine in the end and she arrived at 40+5!

NervousBFP · 31/03/2019 05:21

So if you get to 24 weeks and there's no change to your cervix length, does that mean there wont be for the rest of the pregnancy? Worried that 24 weeks seems early to discharge...

That’s what my consultant said to me that they don’t measure beyond then, as I’m under her until 24 weeks unless something changes, then under a diff one from 28 weeks for growth scans because of SGA in my first pregnancy.
I wonder if it might be different in some NHS trusts though as here they do the progesterone injections rather than the pessaries

Do you have a history of premmies OP?
