Im nearly 19wks into my 2nd pregnancy with an anterior placenta. Felt my 1st really early around 15wks but this time nothing, barely a flutter Sad when did any fellow ant. placenta ladies first have definite movements? It's one of the most beautiful things about pregnancy and it's really getting me down!!

I didn't feel anything until 22 weeks, and reliably 24 weeks. Sorry OP!

mynameiscalypso · 30/03/2019 13:46

I'm just over 19 weeks with DC1 and haven't felt anything yet. My midwife said it probably won't be until more like 22-24 weeks.

gothicsprout · 30/03/2019 13:49

22-23 weeks here (DC2 with anterior placenta), but to be honest not that different from DC1 when I had normal placenta, which was probably 21-22 weeks?

happygoluckyhippo · 30/03/2019 13:55

Yep, same. Last time had an anterior placenta and only started feeling movements after my 20 week scan from about 21-22-23 weeks I think.
This pregnancy, posterior placenta and have been feeling wee movements on and off since 15 weeks. Don't worry!

Mintypea5 · 30/03/2019 13:56

Anterior placenta DS2 didn't get until 21 weeks and even then very inconsistent for ages!

RaspberryBubblegum · 30/03/2019 14:12

I had posterior placenta with both mine and even then I only felt them both at around 16 weeks and then not again until around 24 weeks. Always worried me but my scans would always show them moving like crazy, I just couldn't feel any of it!

snoopy18 · 30/03/2019 15:04

I had anterior placenta but thankfully I felt baby really early on - was my first.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 30/03/2019 15:58

That's a relief albeit abit annoying! I had alot of bleeding early on so I was hoping once I felt movements it would be a reassurance. What about visible kicks or ones you could feel from the outside?
Same @RaspberryBubblegum, I've had 3 scans and she's really wriggly but can't feel a thing!

I have an anterior placenta and now 28 weeks - definitely get big kicks now and can see her wriggling around!

Mintypea5 · 30/03/2019 19:18

@MissPollyHadADolly19 annoyingly for me I couldn't see my DS2 move or kick at all front on just the occasional on the side but my placenta was high and right across the front. I will say tho if you're not lucky enough to see and feel much movement the ward triage are always willing to see you for reduced movements concerns. I was in almost every week because I just couldn't see or feel it!

The sonagrapher was always amazed that I couldn't feel the kicks at all we could see on the scans

Roughday · 31/03/2019 06:25

I havnt got an anterior placenta , I am 15 weeks with my fourth and the last week felt it moving every evening , sometime quite strong flutters .. now for the last four days I have felt nothing at all !! I’m really worried...!

hipstercat · 31/03/2019 08:18

I have anterior placenta and started feeling weird internal movements at 21 weeks, and was more convinced that they were the baby and not just gas at 22. Now 23 and still no proper outward kicks, but definitely feel what I think is the baby turning and moving up and down. It will come!

AuntMarch · 31/03/2019 08:23

Not sure exactly but even flutters were a while after 20wk scan. I'm now 27 weeks and have felt some good strong kicks the last week and half maybe. Last couple of days less so, but just as I started to think I should call to get checked I got a good booting. Pretty sure it's just babies position.
I still haven't noticed any being visible.

GabbyGal · 31/03/2019 09:04

21 weeks before I felt anything. Hang in there x

VanillaLatteAndCake · 31/03/2019 09:07

Similar to others, I didn't start to feel movements until about 20wks. Later on in the pregnancy (maybe 38wks) I went to hospital for reduced movements. I was put on a monitor which said the baby was moving but I couldn't feel it at all! Very strange!

Frizzy1986 · 31/03/2019 16:54

I had anterior with dd and felt first flutters at maybe 18-19 weeks but nothing definite until about 23-25. Even then, everything was really muted. I was never woken with movement, or uncomfortable, didn't get huge kicks or jabs or anything. She was fairly placid and the placenta position dulled it more.
I'm currently almost 14 weeks with #2 and it was the first question I asked at my scan (after knowing things were ok) as I really felt I missed out last time. Posterior this time so I'll see what the difference is like.

beforeIhit30 · 31/03/2019 17:22

I’m pg with DC3, anterior placenta in all three pregnancies. With DC1 and DC2 I was over 20 weeks when I felt movement - can’t remember the exact timing but it was around 22-24 weeks. I’m 18 weeks now and get the very occasional flutter, but it’s maybe once in a day and not prominent yet. I also have a baby that is incredibly wriggly in scans, but I can’t tell otherwise! I figure somewhere over the next 6 weeks I will start to feel movements more prominently and start to build a picture of what regular movements are for this baby. Midwife said something like movements become known anywhere between 16 weeks and 24 weeks usually.

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 01/04/2019 13:29

How will I know if I'm having reduced movements if I can hardly feel anything? I'm so paranoid, I had a very "textbook pregnancy" with my first so didn't have any of these worries. Feel like a FTM all over again lol.

@MissPollyHadADolly19 by the time they'll put you on the monitor for reduced movements 28 weeks hopefully you'll feel something and have a pattern you recognise so if that changes or you go significant periods without feeling anything (they always told me over 4-6 hrs) then call up triage and they'll have you in for reduced movement monitoring

I could barely feel anything but did know my own "pattern" and was in almost every week because I just couldn't feel him.

katelily2017 · 01/04/2019 20:15

I had anterior placenta with my first and felt first movements about 20 weeks.

I had no idea how forceful movements can be with babies until DD2.

You will be glad by the end of the pregnancy OP, it's nowhere near as uncomfortable with anterior placenta. You can still see and feel the movements just don't feel like your being beaten up! Xxx

VanillaLatteAndCake · 01/04/2019 20:26

I'm sure you'll start to feel something within the next 2-4wks. Then like a pp, you get to know what is normal for you. I can't remember exactly what was 'normal' for me but I remember thinking during work that it was less than normal so I called the midwife when I got home. They are so lovely too, nothing was too much trouble and were very welcome to have me come in and get checked.
