I'm 31 weeks and had my prenatal health visitor check two weeks ago I'm a mum of two other LO's and have never had this before, she stayed for well over an hour doing tick box sort of questions some a little intrusive for eg do you receive Universal Credit?? The answer is no but what if someone was? She also said that they ask to come and see sleeping arrangements once baby is here? Again never had this before she also had someone with her who we can only presume was a student as she never introduced or told us she'd be bringing someone with her.
Can only describe the entire visit a head ache at a time your supposed to be relaxed and lucking forward to baby's arrival we're now apprehensive of health visitor...

Doesn’t sound great. I declined my prenatal visit as didn’t want to take a morning off work and they were fine about it. You can opt out of any of it that you want you know?

I assume UC is linked to healthy start vouchers or other other entitlements.

My prenatal HV visits with DD was nearly 3 years ago and definitely a visit not a check. HV introduced herself, she had a student with her the same one was with midwife the previous day, chatted and gave advice, DH popped in and she told him to be gate keeper for visitors. It was nice to meet her before the baby arrived.

I had one. Thought it was weird that she wanted to see where baby was sleeping etc. Not my first baby either.

Never saw her again.

Different person did the post birth visit.

These have been a thing in my area for a few years now, although I missed mine as they’d scheduled it for when I’d be around 39 weeks pregnant, and baby had arrived by then. The health visitor who came round after the birth wasn’t interested in seeing baby’s sleeping arrangements, she just talked me through a leaflet on safe sleep advice.

From talking to other women in my area who had these, I believe they’re intended as an introduction to the health visitor and the sorts of things they can help families with.

I found it really helpful, got loads of advice and was referred to a few different things that i inquired about, i am Pregnant again and will be doing all the home visits again as it was good to have someone come and answer any questions i had, especially as all babies are different.

The questions like UC etc are so she knows your situation for example in case you have any issues and to make sure you change your circumstances etc or to make sure your claiming everything you need to claim/ getting all the help etc.

Even if someone has had multiple children they may not know certain things as circumstances change and things change over the years.

I remember being apprehensive about mine. It was for dc3 and never heard of them before. It was pointless for a 3rd child. I learn nothing new and just made me feel judged.
My hv spent most of the tome getting my dhs name completely wrobg and telling him he should move from his full time chef job.

I had mine yesterday (first baby) and found it really positive. They do use it was a screening to identify families who might need extra help or support, mine asked about domestic violence, our childhoods, money worries and so on. Tbh as I’d done NCT I didn’t really learn anything but if I hadn’t the advice on safe sleeping and so on would have been useful. I guess it depends who you get - mine was totally lovely and made me feel very relaxed about her coming after birth.

I think you can probability decline these visits if you don’t want them.
