Im 5 weeks in to my first pregnancy. In the middle of the night last night I was woken up with this sharp stabbing sensation on my lower left side (lower abdomen). It was really painful to the point that I had to sit up until it was gone and had to check for bleeding after! It lasted around 5 mins, there was no bleeding and there's been nothing since aside from the light on/off cramps I've had since implantation. It really frightened me at the time... has anyone experienced anything similar?

It can be very normal Smile Some cramping can be expected as your body starts pumping your joints and ligaments full of a hormone called relaxin - it allows the relevant muscles/joints/ligaments to stretch to accommodate your growing baby. I’ve experienced cramping early on in all three pregnancies.

Oh yeah. Pregnancy is so much fun. It’s probably round ligament pain but keep an eye on it. If it becomes constant or persistent then go get checked as obviously ectopic etc is a risk but yeah delightful omg was a just stabbed pains are all part of the fun. Wait until you’re a few weeks further on and sneeze!

@peaky297 I had exactly the same thing last week that turned out to be nothing. Maybe ring your local epu just to be on the safe size.

@peaky297 I had exactly the same thing at a similar time (5 weeks) - middle of the night, like really bad period pain (which I don't get really, pretty lucky). I've been having on and off cramps in the weeks since but no bleeding. Plus I took another test which shows you the number of weeks and it had gone from 1-2 to 2-3. Think it's pretty normal if a little scary!

Is it along your knicker line?
