Induction failures!

Advice needed from people who've had inductions.

Yesterday, I was induced at 8.30am, the 1st 24hr pessory slid out at 2pm so I had another re-inserted, this came dislodged at 9pm and then finally slid out again at 10.30pm before it could sorted 5, so a 3rd was put in and slid out just before it was due to be removed at 8.30am.

The 1st pessory has done nothing, no real pains, no further dialation Nothing.

The 2nd pessory (1st 6hour one) inserted and after 6 hours nothing, another internal and no further dilation.

3rd pessory inserted now and waiting I am now, waiting to be monitored at 11.30pm or 3.30am and then see the Drs tmw morning to see if I can have my waters broken or a 4th pessory inserted.

Has anyone had this? Or had experiences of this - any advice would be great 😀

Yes i took 3 and then they broke my waters

The pessarys are really just to soften your cervix enough to allow access to break waters, they only put a small minority into labour.

Get bouncing on the ball, I'm sure that's what helped me. Good luck x

I also had the 24hr tampon pessary and then 3 doses of the 6hr gel. Examined by midwife after the 3rd dose to be told my waters couldn’t be broken and that I’d either have to restart the process or have a c-section. The consultant did her rounds approx 2hours later and declared my waters could be broken and once that happened it all went pretty quickly! I was very disheartened after the midwife’s check, but like pp bounced on the birthing ball and went for a long walk round the hospital to get things moving. Good luck!

Sounds very normal
I had the 24hr tampon like pessary also and 3 rounds of the 6hr gel before my waters could be popped, 9hrs later baby born..
It was a long slog!
Best of luck Thanks

Long slog here too... I lost count of the repeats I had... but I went in on Sat and dd wasn't born until Thursday night!

I had 3 or 3 pessaries and didn't dilate even enough to break my waters after nearly 3 days so ended up having c-section.

Tootyfrooty35 · 27/03/2019 07:48

Took two days of pessaries for then to break my waters. Then it was fairly quick to baby in my arms.

Depends on reasons for induction but sometimes they'll give your the otpion of going home for 24 hours to rest before they start the process again. Some women will be happy for this and others might be too fed up. See how you feel but there is always the option to wait and see.

I think being induced can be one of the most frustrating things ever, especially first time. Good luck ❤️

I had this! I’m glad your pesaries kept coming out as mine did too and the mws were really glary at me as if it was my fault every time they had to put it back in. I really couldn’t help it! All the pessaries did nothing for me other than give me period pain bad enough to not be able to sleep but didnt actually do anything. I was told I wasn’t allowed to leave the hospital. I was never even close to them trying to break my waters. I had my first pessary on Monday afternoon/evening and it took until Friday lunch for them to decide it wasn’t going to work and tongive me a csection. So much waiting around in hospital and dh wasted half of his paternity leave with me being induced. If I were you after a couple of days if it’s done nothing I’d start pushing for a section. I just went along with whatever they said. I had no idea it could take so long!

Pessary gave me contractions but no dilation. If they can get at your waters to break them then they'll put you on the drip so too early to say it's failed yet! It took a while but I gave birth without complications 10 hours after the drip was started.

Another long slog- went in on a Monday a.m. DS wasn't born until Thursday Night.
After pessaries( can't remember how many) and drip.

Thanks everyone, after being examined late Tuesday night i was given another pessory and taken down on Wednesday to the labour ward to have my waters broken and go on the drip about 8am.

All went brilliantly until about 5.10pm when after having pethadine and being examined I dilated from 3 - 6 cm in about 30 seconds baby's heart rate dropped slightly, then so dramatically, that by 5.15pm I had buzzers being pressed and over 20people in my delivery room, I whisked to theatre had crash teams in there for me and the baby, given a general anthestic and my baby was delivered at 5.28pm.

My placenta had started to deteriorate and was detaching, lucky the midwife leading my delivery and the team were excellent and i was dealt with so quickly that the oxygen levels in the cord were not affected and I have a beautiful baby boy.

My section was cut and shut and was not not pretty I believe the whole process from putting me under to getting him out took less than 3mins.

I'm in a lot of pain still but like I said we're here to tell the tale and I truly believe if it wasn't for the experience of my midwife one or both of us wouldn't be here.

So now if any has any advice on c-section recovery that would be great thanks x
