Hi all,

I'm 12 weeks pregnant and going to krakow, Poland when I'm 16 weeks along.

Midwife has said it's fine, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice or tips?

I've been to krakow before so I'm not going out my comfort zone, just anxious over being pregnant 😂

I went to Cyprus at 21 weeks.
I was just told to keep drinking plenty/use flight socks on the plane.
While on holiday just enjoy yourself!. The biggest thing for me was watching that I didn't overheat in the sun.
Have a great time. I love Krakow.

Obviously the B word has an effect on this- you will need good travel insurance if we crash out of the EU as you will not be covered by the EHIC for healthcare, should you need any in Poland.

I went long haul when 11 weeks to the US. Got horrendous constipation and pharmacist wouldn’t/couldn’t give me anything. I would maybe take with you appropriate safe medications for common complaints that you might not have yet but could get ie constipation (lactulose), heartburn (gaviscon) paracetamol etc. So you know what you are taking is safe. If you have food aversions/ sickness etc take your favourite snacks, and drink plenty of water.

I’m in Geneva right now (not a holiday, sadly, but feels a bit like one - although that means we’re not earning enough money!).

My midwife said that I should use flight socks (try Wilkinson’s, if you have one nearby - mine seem fine so far), and keep moving on the flight. She also said to make sure I stay well—hydrated while flying.

She suggested I should stick to bottled water, which I most certainly have not been doing! (I think the tap water here is Evian...) I’ve found that I’ve had to be careful with a lot of the local food choices, too - I’ve eaten gravadlax, which I’d probably have avoided given free choice, and the burger I was served yesterday, which DH ended up finishing, was a bit rare. Also, with uncooked cured meats and any kind of soft cheese or salad, it might be wise to exercise caution. (I am SO done with watching what I eat to this extent, especially as I seem to be failing anyway.)

You should take your maternity notes with you, too. I’m carrying mine everywhere, as I’m reliant on public transport and other people to get places, and can’t just pop back to base to pick them up if anything goes wrong.

As you get to 24 weeks, you need to make sure you have insurance which also covers the baby - Ravenhall is recommended a lot on here. This isn’t relevant to this trip for you, but you should check what your travel insurance company says about traveling while pregnant - you might need to inform them.

Good luck - enjoy your trip!

Enjoy is my advice! I've done long haul (8 hours plus) throughout at weeks 5, 9/10, 15/16, 24/25. Will do my last at 33+5. Lots of water and flight socks as others have said. Walking around lots at stop overs and arrival and time to catch up on sleep/jetlag on arrival. I found eating easier every time I went away but I live somewhere where food is rough in pregnancy. I always have a doctor's letter and my notes but the letter is free where I am. And it's good for jumping terrible airport queues. Which are a huge issue here. I honestly had no troubles at all. Touch wood.

Sorry to jump on! Do you need flight socks at any gestation? I'm going to Rome and Spain at 10 and 11 weeks respectively but hadn't thought I'd need them until I was further along?

Lantern92 · 26/03/2019 20:40

I went to New York at 10 weeks and Athens at 24 weeks! No issues with either! Was just very tired after walking probably 9 to 10 miles a day on both holidays! Keep hydrated and plenty of rest! I didn't take my notes because I was scared I would lose them but I have had a very uncomplicated pregnancy so far with no sickness or anything. Just relax and enjoy!

PBobs · 26/03/2019 22:37

@Amehh no. My doc said I should wear them from week 15 I think. I just do a lot of flying so it's habit.

Soov567 · 27/03/2019 21:04

I took photos of my maternity notes as I’m pretty sure I’d have lost them if I’d brought the originals with me. As other people said, be careful of overheating, it can happen really easily

I went Rome at 24 weeks from Manchester so short haul but fine. Get flight socks & drink lots of water on flight & walk around etc. Also check insurance covers you. Have fun!

I went to Myanmar when I was 10 weeks pregnant and went to a village near Bagan. There was a festival going on and they were cooking dahl in large holes in the ground and kept offering it to me. I didn't eat it.

My point is, don't eat dodgy street food if there is any.
