This heartburn is insane!
I'm only four months, it's been there from the beginning, but not nearly this bad.
I tried gaviscon, which is vile.
Any recommendations that won't make me vomit?

I ate rennies. Can you take ranitidine tablets in pregnancy?

GetHappy · 25/03/2019 19:33

Boots on is not too bad! More minty. My consultant has prescribed me ranitidine which has helped massively

Browniee · 25/03/2019 20:50

Agree with above poster about Rennies! You can also get chewable Gaviscon too which are more minty flavoured if it’s the taste of the liquid that you don’t like.

Hadalifeonce · 25/03/2019 20:52

Refreshers!!!!!!

SoftBlocks · 25/03/2019 20:53

Rennies were the only thing that worked for me I ate so many of them.

QueenOfCatan · 25/03/2019 20:58

Rennies. Though they give me a sore throat if I use too many :(
Gaviscon do a mint liquid too which is okay, I find that the most effective thing.

Go to your gp and get some omeprazole, safe and widely prescribed during pregnancy. You can get esomeprazole (Nexium) over the counter too which does the same thing but costs more. You can use omeprazole alongside Rennies/gaviscon too as they have different ways of working in the body. I also found the sachets of cystitis relief powders (89 p in home bargains) in water were good too as they help neutralise acidic reflux too.

I have had to learn about indigestion as it seems my GP is determined not to let me have any prescription stuff...Rennies are ok, remegel are good if you want chewy rather than chalky. However the reason they say gaviscon is because that is the only one (and peptac which is cheap liquid gaviscon) that forms a cap to stop reflux. All the others neutralise acid but don't stop the mechanics of reflux whereas gavsicon does. It's a shame it's disgusting! I am currently tolerating gaviscon tablets as although they make me heave a little they do seem to be better at knocking acid back where it belongs.

I was also told to elevate the end of the bed rather than using a pillow (really helpful during the day at work 🙄) and to eat little and often which does seem to help. Also drinking plenty and lots of fibre as getting constipated causes everything else to clog up too along the system.
I'm off to Google nexium, thanks for that tip, but I'm hoping for some ranitidine or omeprazole after my midwife appointment this week as even gaviscon doesn't do anything for me now some days (27 weeks).

dementedpixie · 25/03/2019 21:18

You can buy ranitidine off the shelf in the supermarket

Heyha · 25/03/2019 21:26

Oh!! So you can! "Jerry, get my Zantac".
Why did my GP send me to the pharmacy for peptac (cheap gaviscon, even the pharmacist was baffled why he was selling it to me) when she could have told me to get some Zantac? I'll add that to my list.

dementedpixie · 25/03/2019 21:27

Just buy generic ranitidine

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 25/03/2019 21:48

Orange Rennie! They taste just like refreshers!

Angelmiracle · 26/03/2019 00:27

Cleared it with GP been taking Ranitidine from 32 weeks. 79p a box from B&M bargains- local chemist same box 2.99!! Plus a Rennies going to bed.

Whoopsies · 26/03/2019 07:37

I'm another one for Omeprezole. I went to my gp and basically said I wasn't leaving until I got it. I tried gaviscon and ranitidine but neither even touched it for me. But one tablet of Omeprezole a day and I don't get it at all anymore!
