Toco readings

Currently being induced with 2nd baby at 39w 4d. Sat on the monitor at the minute and the base rate the Toaco reading is 20, the highest it's been is 89. Just wondering what's classed as a contraction and what's classed as a bad contraction type thing?!

sorry I can't help, but I'm very interested in this too, I've looked online but haven't found anything....hope everything is alright!

Is the toco reading the one that measures uterine activity? I don’t think the numbers actually relate to anything in particular on that one... but I’m probably wrong!

i got told the numbers don't specifically mean anything, it's more you have your own baseline and will then see peaks. mine went off the chart when i had contractions

The numbers don't mean anything. If you cough, sneeze, move, vomit, baby kicks etc the numbers will change. The midwife palpating your tummy will be able to estimate whether the contractions are mild, moderate or strong.
The only real use for the toco is to see how often contractions are, and if a baby is having decelerations, what the timing is in relation to the contractions.
I've been at plenty of births where the toco didn't budge!
Don't bother looking at that bit!
