Fetal Doppler

Hi has anyone any recommendations for a home fetal Doppler that actually works?
I've been looking them up online and found an lcd one from anawiz for £75 but unsure if I'm wasting my money?

Has anyone used one and successfully heard the heartbeat?
Also from how many weeks have people heard the heartbeat?

Thanks x

Please don't buy one. They are falsely reassuring and there is a reason why they're not recommended.

Nightmanagerfan · 24/03/2019 11:57

Look at the kicks count website.

Trained medical professionals sometimes struggle to identify the baby’s heartbeat vs the placenta or mother’s heartbeat so it’s incredibly dangerous to think you can do it with a cheap device and no training. They have also been found to give false reassurance - someone who is almost dead still has a heartbeat so it’s better to rely on movement as a baseline for worry, rather than a Doppler. Your midwife will check regularly anyway so you shouldn’t need extra checks.

kgeal3 · 24/03/2019 12:07

It was more for fun tbh, so the kids get to hear the baby at home as all my appointments will be during their school hours x

Record the heartbeat on your phone at your midwife appointments to share with your children. Whatever you do do not buy a home Doppler. X

Shazafied · 24/03/2019 12:28

I personally found a Doppler reassuring in the early stages, before feeling movement. Haven’t used it since started feeling kicks. It’s fairly obvious what is babies heartbeat, placenta noise , your own heart beat.

Shazafied · 24/03/2019 12:28

I used an angelsounds one

Meh you will get loads of people saying don't get one but I have one and it's fine if you're sensible. Obviously if you suspect anything is wrong with the baby get checked out by a medical professional.

I have a sonoline one, it was about £40 I think.

myotherbagisgucci · 24/03/2019 12:51

I also had an Angelsounds one too. After going through years and years of infertility and recurring mc's, I found using one really reassuring. I appreciate that they're not for everyone, but mine gave me some peace of mind before I felt baby kick.

Hi everyone I’m new to this site and not fully sure how to use it, I’ve seen this is an active thread and need some help. I came off my pill 6 weeks ago to ttc , I had a period when I came off it. I am now 5 days late and have had 3 negative tests. Can someone tell me is there any possible chance I can still be pregnant, I’m hoping I ovulated late in the month and it’s too early to tell. I also seen a fortune teller last week and she was adamant that I’m pregnant. ( I know this is probably nonsense)

CountessVonBoobs · 24/03/2019 13:03

Byrne, you need to start your own thread, but you probably have just not got a regular cycle back after the pill. The bleed you had wasn't a true period it was a withdrawal bleed. It's possible you could be pregnant but it's most likely that your cycle is just going to take some time to re-establish itself post pill.

I would advise not getting a Doppler, it's not obvious which is which heartbeat/pulse and thinking it is is shows the degree to which you don't know what you're listening to. The reassurance they offer is spurious - if you're really anxious about pregnancy it's better to tackle that at source.

HappyGoGoLucky · 24/03/2019 14:08

I had Sonaline B Doppler. Worked great IME.

fee1234 · 24/03/2019 14:12

I've got an angel sounds one and personally I found it very reassuring.. I heard hb at 12 weeks and used it until I started feeling movement at 16/17 weeks.

I know they aren't recommended but I'd use it again in next pregnancy. I have quite a low heart rate so it was very easy to distinguish between my own and baby's.

Shazafied · 24/03/2019 14:21

“thinking it is is shows the degree to which you don't know what you're listening to.”

That makes no sense ! I can assure you I did know what I was listening to !!

Shazafied · 24/03/2019 14:22

Thinking (or knowing) that you know something doesn’t prove that you don’t know it ! How silly!

Dopplers are to be used sensibly and of course if you had concerns / reduced movement you’d get medical attention.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 24/03/2019 14:33

You can record it on your phone. Please don't buy one as you will likely have a day where you need reassuring and instead of going to a medical professional you'll be so tempted to just use that.

They should be banned from being sold to the general public.

stayhomeclub · 24/03/2019 14:42

I wouldn’t only because it took a midwife and a doctor a while to find it at 16 and 19 weeks respectively, I was surprised how difficult it seemed!

shivbo2014 · 24/03/2019 16:20

I also used Angelsounds...

HJWT · 24/03/2019 17:53

I have one that I had from DD pregnancy, not found heartbeat yet and I am 9 weeks today (baby is measuring 10 though) xx

Hugtheduggee · 24/03/2019 20:23

If you want to use it for reassurance, dont.

If you want to use it for fun or bonding, then go for it!

Its actually very easy to tell the difference between your heartbeat, babys heartbeat and the placenta, though I'd recommend checking your own pulse before starting, so you can be sure.

Providing people dont use them for reassurance, or instead of medical attention, they can be great fun.

I've usually found babys heartbeat from 10-12 ish weeks, though in the early months there have been times I couldn't find it. If that would worry you, dont get a doppler. If you are the type (I am) to just shrug and try again the next day, thinking its probably baby in an awkward position or the placenta masking it etc, then go for it.

Only you know how relaxed you'd likely be, and what you'd use it for.

I wouldnt want to see them banned though just because some people cant be trusted to use them responsibly.

Hugtheduggee · 24/03/2019 20:25

stayhomeclub, one good thing about using the doppler is you get to understand where your baby hangs out.

My midwife couldn't find the heartbeat at first, but after I pointed out where i usually found it and she tried, she found it.

Kescilly · 24/03/2019 20:38

I listened to advice and didn’t get one because the reasons against made sense. I didn’t want to be tempted to listen for reassurance.

However I’m 30 weeks and my midwife has never listened for the heartbeat, so I sort of wish I had gotten one.

dreaming174 · 25/03/2019 02:41

75 quid!! I paid about 15 for mine.

cja06 · 25/03/2019 07:32

I got an angel sounds one off eBay for about £25 and it works great.

People will always have a pop at you about considering to buy one. If you want to get one, as long as you understand it can be hard to find the baby initially and not rely on it - there's no harm done.

I listen to my baby regular and my daughter loves hearing the baby too :)

Buddytheelf85 · 25/03/2019 08:09

I hate the flaming anyone who asks about fetal Dopplers always gets on here and all the ‘they should be banned’ stuff. I think it’s sexist paternalistic claptrap that assumes women are incapable of understanding the limitations of a device.

They are only dangerous if you experience reduced movements or other symptoms such as bleeding and then rely on a Doppler to reassure yourself of the baby’s wellbeing instead of going to get checked out at hospital.

I don’t see a problem with anyone using one for fun/bonding.

Rubberduckies · 25/03/2019 08:12

Mine was an angelsounds one. I reckon from 8/9 weeks. Dh was brilliant at finding it.

We just used in the 1st/ beginning of 2nd trimester as reassurance and for fun/bonding. Haven't used it since having any movements.
