Due to go to France using the tunnel at the end of August.
According to my scan I will be 34+3 on the way out and 35+3 on the return. We'd booked before finding out we were expecting and think it's still a feasible holiday. We just want to ensure that should I go into labour early (which I know is unlikely) that I'll be covered for labour, csection, hospital care, surgery, neonatal, whatever it is that we need. Comprehensive cover is what I'm after.
Lots of companies seem to cover to 28 weeks and then consider labour "normal" so it doesn't appear as if its covered.
A few options would be really useful if anyone knows any.
We are already having to cancel the ferry and go on the tunnel so I'm hoping this insurance isn't going to put a spanner in the works as it's the only time we could book off work for a family holiday.

I highly recommend ravenhall insurance. Can be expensive, but they do specialist pregnancy insurance

I used Ravenhall. Whatever company you go with, make sure they will also cover the baby if born prematurely as many don’t. Neonatal care generally costs a lot more than the delivery itself.

We have a NatWest packaged bank account. The travel insurance covers our immediate family members. When I phoned up to check this trip I’m on now was covered, including all of the necessary baby stuff, I was reassured. They also say you’re ok to fly after 28 weeks (I don’t know exactly how late as it didn’t apply any later, although now it looks like we’ll be traveling again in a few weeks), as long as it’s not against medical advice (the Ravenhall insurance wanted a doctor’s note to fly, so it’s lucky for me I wasn’t on that insurance!).

If I were to buy a packaged bank account again, though, I’d probably go with Nationwide - it’s cheaper per month and seems to have slightly better benefits. But I’ve not checked out their travel insurance, so I can’t promise it’s as good as the NatWest one.

I’ve also just booked Ravenhall insurance. They have a product called Mama2B which seemed to cover everything I also added my husband to the policy as if he had his own policy and something happened, he might not be covered to stay with me. Slightly expensive for a week but gave peace of mind. Worth remembering that the policy requires you to be ‘fit to travel’ so worth getting a note from the midwife in case anything should change on that front otherwise the policy could be invalid. Enjoy your hols !

I've been looking for travel insurance too and none of them actually say whether pregnancy related instances are covered! It's not a pre existing medical condition so there isn't an option to note it I'm finding!

sacrecoeur0712 · 24/03/2019 07:39

I've also looked into this this week - I did find a policy with insure for.com which covers several pregnancy related issues, but only covers delivery if you've got more than 8 weeks before due date at the time of travel (longer if expecting twins). Might be an affordable option for others although appreciate it doesn't help you op.

Watching with interest... I'm due to go to Southern France when I'm 32 weeks traveling back at 33 weeks so having to rethink travel options as can't go with our planned Brittany Ferry.

Frazzled2207 · 24/03/2019 08:37

@AuntieMaggie this happened to me as Brittany Ferries' limit is really early isn't it. We lost our deposit and eventually just stayed in the UK. But the insurance situation after a few phone calls was basically fine IIRC.
