What does/did your breech bump feel like?

Currently 34 weeks. 2 weeks ago MW told me baby was breech. She wasn't concerned as there was/is plenty of time left for him to turn but I'd love to be able to know myself how baby is positioned.

I feel a large hard lump under the right side of my ribs which is getting uncomfortable. I can't feel anything in particular at the bottom of my bump. Most movements are both sides in the middle so not much help.

I know no one can tell me on MN but just looking for experiences, thanks!

My daughter was breech I could always feel where her head was like you just under the ribs. My midwife said it might just be a pair of firm buttocks but I knew there weren’t many of those in my family!

She was breech at the 20 week scan and didn’t move much at all. As far as I know she was that way up the whole way along.

Ended up with a planned c section which was lovely and calm baby arrived safely. I refused the ECV so I’ll never know if that would have worked.

Good luck sure will all be fine. There’s a website called spinning babies that had all sorts of nutty things you can try to help them turn. None worked for me but might be worth a go xx

DS flipped between breech and transverse. Breech I could feel his head on my right side just under my ribs. Transverse my bump looked square.

The consultant I had told me that the spinning babies stuff was a load of nonsense. He said babies will flip round when they want to if they have space to. He told me to stop doing the inverse things as it was more likely to make my heart run worse rather than turn the baby.

Baby flipped from footling breech to head down and engaged at 39+6 the night before my scheduled c section. I had a normal vaginal birth after induction via breaking waters manually.

Heartburn not heart run!

My eldest had his head in my right rib. I can still feel the pressure of it now, and he’s 5. The bump just felt like a bump, I would never have known where he was had I tried to check, but that head in my ribs, especially sitting in the car...

I could've written this post! Going through the same thing, 34 weeks and she's breeched. Her head is right under my rib and is very uncomfortable! If she's still in the same position I'll be having a scan at 36 weeks to see her actual position and then go from there! xo

Almost exactly the same as @greatandpowerfulozma said. My DS didn't move much at all but could feel him under my ribs as he got bigger. I ended up with an emergency section at 36 weeks due to my waters breaking and a lot of meconium in the fluid. Bit of a stressful time but I've now got a very healthy 3 year old. Good luck, @NannyPear you'll be grand.

Same here. Baby turned at 38 weeks (it was very painful, I thought I was going into labour!)

NannyPear · 21/03/2019 22:03

Thanks for the replies folks, really useful! The midwife did show me how to feel his head (which is exactly where the hard uncomfy bump is now) but I keep second guessing myself thinking it's probably now just his bum as everything I read tells me it can be hard to distinguish the two.

I have been planning a home birth from about 23 weeks so I think this is putting a spanner in the works in terms of my mindset. I haven't looked into it properly as don't want to get ahead of myself but I don't think I'd go for an ECV in any case. If this was DC1 I'd just be going with the flow tbh, but I've put more thought and decision making into things this time round and just didn't expect this to be a concern!

By the time I went in for the ELCS you could literally 'see' the head of my lovely breech ds1 sticking out under my ribs! They scanned to make sure he was still breech but there really was not much point as I knew he had not moved. I did go to try to have him turned but it was an awful experience. Once I got my head round having an ELCS it was a very positive experience.

I'm 36w with a breach boy!

The bottom of my bump feels "flabby" without much substance and I have a hard lump on my upper right side.

Sometimes DS will lie transverse and I get a rectangle of hardness.

Planned section for 39+1

greatandpowerfulozma · 22/03/2019 01:09

Same as @lorisparkle my ELCS was a positive experience. It was my first baby so I haven’t done it the more traditional way to compare but I found it calm and fine. Recovery was okay too. Just took it really easy. Lots of really good tips in mumsnet for how to manage it x

^^

This. I used to rest a cup on it Grin

I had a section with both as they were both breech and it was great.
