Just wondering if there's anyone else out there who's quite sporty and early on? Would be good to chat to others in a similar situation.

I've just found out a few days ago and already noticed that my HR (both resting and during steady work) is up a bit. I wasn't quite expecting to see that happening so quickly!

I wouldn’t say I am sporty as such but I do kettlebells at home five days a week. I am 9 weeks. Feeling really good (so lucky I know!) so have continued doing the same exercises just no crunches or twists and less lying on my back. Intend to keep it up throughout pregnancy as long as I can!

I was, and was expecting to pretty much carry on as normal for the first few months. (running and cycling several times a week). I had terrible nausea and also had flu 8 weeks in, and ended up doing virtually nothing apart from cycle to work for about 2 months. Now I feel much better (20 weeks) but have gained 10 kg so running doesn't really appeal and cycling more than a couple of hours is difficult (slow on hills, saddle not comfy). Also feel quite risk averse so not keen on cycling in groups or in heavy traffic. So am doing a lot of walking and some swimming and short bike rides. Which is probably still more than most non pregnant women, but feels very lazy!

I'm 25 weeks and still at gym/classes 3-5 times a week.
Do a mix of bootcamp, spin and weights. I was doing body attack Up until last week but can no longer do all the high impact moves without feeling uncomfortable. (ie feeling like am going to pee myself)

If your used to regular exercise there is absolutely no reason not to continue what your doing, with reasonable adjustments along the way. Ie. No direct abs after 12 weeks, then plank only until you feel uncomfortable. Most importantly Listen to your body.

I have no plans of stopping exercise until I physically can't do it anymore. Lol

I'm a long distance runner and I also do regular pilates, yoga and gym classes. I was actually scheduled to run a marathon in three weeks, and a 100 mile ultra in July which I have obviously had to cancel Grin

At the moment i'm just taking it easy. I'm quite light headed at the moment so i'm running at my conversational pace and not doing any more than 5k at a time. Too scared to do any weights at the gym at the moment because i'm so clumsy.

I'm 37 weeks at the moment and still going to the gym (mostly spinning/light dumbells) and doing swimming about every 2/3 days! My resting HR is now about 60bpm (was probably about 55 pre-pregnancy).

For the first and second trimesters, I was still running - I just stopped timing myself because some days were tough and some were normal so I didn't want to put the pressure of keeping to a strict pace on myself! I also bought a pregnancy 3rd trimester workout guide from"Expecting and Empowered" because I wasn't sure what I could do in the gym that was definitely safe. They do ones for all trimesters but I didn't have to make major adjustments until 3rd so glad I didn't shell out for the 3 of them!

All the advice suggests you can keep doing your normal activity (once it's safe etc) and "stop it if feels wrong". Obviously every pregnancy is different but hopefully you can keep up your active lifestyle!

@starrgazer i hope im still able enough to be going at 37 weeks. the gym is my happy place! lol

Ah good to hear from you all! I'm completely on board with the fact that exercise is still fine to do - it was one of the things I had to look into before we even TTC as being fit and training is a part of who I am.

I have a book called 'the pregnant athlete' (written by an American triathlete) which I read through once already but might start to actually dip into it now.

@eightoclock sorry to hear you were hit with the nausea. I'm worrying I have that on the horizon as my mum had it badly with me...

I'm mostly a rower but I do cycle as cross training (on a turbo trainer and we have a safe route away from traffic for rides). I'm thinking that the cycling is going to be easier to keep up with by the time I get a bump...

I think the main thing is just do as much as you want to and try and stay as fit as possible... But don't beat yourself up if it doesn't work out the way you plan! I am really enjoying walking now whereas I always found it a bit of a drag. I do miss that feeling you get after hard exercise. But looking forward to getting back into it in a few months. Hope it all goes well for you

cocodash · 21/03/2019 14:27

@weathergirl1 i had a bit of naseua and sickness between week 8-10 and gym and exercise was the last thing that i thought of (think more i spent those nights in bed with ice cream)

dont beat yourself up if there is some days you just can not be arsed. i've even been sitting in the car outside the gym, then about turned and went home coz just wasnt feeling it lol

once you get into 2nd trimester things get a lot better... and enjoy being pregnant!! x

faelavie · 21/03/2019 16:02

I wouldn't say I'm sporty but I did used to rollerskate as part of roller derby training for 5 hours a week before coming pregnant. Have taken myself off skates since I found out and I really miss it. I feel so tired now I just don't want to exercise.

amehh · 21/03/2019 16:29

I would usually say me but the last 2 weeks I've done nothing! I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and nausea and exhaustion has claimed me! I usually run and do videos etc (pre pregnancy I ran about 20 miles a week) and I'm about to try going out for 1 solitary mile. Just a tiny one because I have absolutely no energy for any further than that but that's okay.

I hear things get better in the 2nd trimester and my mw said that even if I don't run for a few weeks I'll be fine to pick it back up (slower and shorter) once I feel better :)
