Booking appointment - can we change place afterwards?

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and I was wondering if anyone could help me out... Much appreciated! :)
I'm currently pregnant (week 5), and I phoned to book the first appointment with the midwife today.
They gave me an appointment to a rather far away place (40 minutes minimum by car, when I have both the hospital and my GP practice at easy walking distance from my home).
When I realised how very far away it was, I phoned again to change, but apparently they don't have any spaces at my GP for April, that's why they booked me to the far away clinic.
Problem is: the first receptionist said I will need to be seen there throughout the pregnancy, while the second said I can always change center for future visits. I am not sure which one is right.

Has anyone changed their clinic after their booking appointment? Do you think it's possible?

Thank you!!!

My midwife has 2 places where she sees people in our town (community clinic and children’s centre). Depending on her schedule for the week depends where you are booked in to see her. It’s possible she has shorter appointments but not long ‘boooing in’ slots available at your surgery. I would speak to her at the booking appointment and say you want to be seen at the local clinic/your GP’s going forward and not somewhere that is more difficult for you to get to and see what she says.

It really depends on what the trust’s local policies and procedures are.

For example where I work, you would usually be seen at your own GP surgery for antenatal appointments but may have a booking appointment at a different location depending on availability.

The best thing to do would be to contact the community midwives office or antenatal clinic based at the hospital your midwives work out of and check with them. The GP receptionists are unlikely to be fully aware of how the system works.

Thank you both!
I called again, and it seems that the team for my area works in different places depending on the day of the week, and they didn't have spaces at my GP surgery that were within the right time window for the booking appointment.
(The postcode area is just that massive, apparently...)

Hopefully I'll be able to see them at my GP later on - I'll make sure to ask!

Thank you again! I was freaking out! Grin
