What's your works maternity pay policy?

We've been saving as much as possible for the last few months to last through my maternity leave.

My company follow the statutory rules for maternity pay so I get 90% of my average weekly earnings for 6 weeks and then SMP for the remaining 33 weeks - £145 a week.

I currently earn about £2k take home a month so it's a big drop in income. I was just looking through my old company policy and they pay 26 weeks on full pay!

Does your company offer over and above the law or do they stick to SMP?

Just curious :)

26 weeks full pay, 13 weeks SMP, 13 weeks unpaid.

BikeRunSki · 20/03/2019 14:58

18 weeks full pay
21 weeks stat pay
Job remains open for a year
Accumulate annual leave and BH, which you can add on to end.
KIT days encouraged, can be paid in time in lieu or money.
Shared parental leave is commonly taken by fathers.

I get 6 months full pay (sorry!)

Clevs · 20/03/2019 15:18

NHS Trust:

8 weeks full pay
18 weeks half pay
13 weeks SMP
13 weeks unpaid.

Able to spread it evenly over 9 or 12 months though so even if you take the full 12 month entitlement there's no period of no pay.

TokenGinger · 20/03/2019 15:25

6 weeks at 90% pay.
33 weeks at 50% pay, plus SMP.

Nowthenforever2019 · 20/03/2019 15:39

9 wks full, 18 weeks half + SMP, 12 weeks SMP only, reat unpaid.

I gave 8 of the 12 weeks SMP to my husband who took 3 months off for the first 3 months of my mat leave using the 8 weeks SPL, 2 weeks paternity and 3 weeks annual leave. It was great, but means I've taken some unpaid leave to go back now my baby is 9 months.

olderthanyouthink · 20/03/2019 15:58

6 weeks 100%
33 weeks SMP

Small company that didn't have a maternity policy until they needed one for me, they aren't good at implementing it so they've pretty much paid me enough for SMP for the last bit too.

Ellii · 20/03/2019 15:58

I will get 6 months full pay and 3 months SMP ☺️

Same as me! I'm only early days but I'm dreading the process a bit because it's going to be like the blind leading the blind!

26 weeks full pay, plus 6 weeks accrued holiday, 13 weeks SMP, 13 weeks nothing.

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 20/03/2019 16:58

I get 8 weeks full pay, then 20weeks at 90% and then a further 12 weeks SMP then 12 weeks unpaid leave with accruing holiday also, this is the third time I'm having baby in my job, we also get a welcome to the world bonus when baby is born which is lovely

Mummsie1 · 20/03/2019 17:07

Anyone a teacher in Birmingham council who could help as I know the maternity pay isn’t bad but can’t remember what I got with my daughter. I will contact HR in time but still early on with pregnancy

Cookit · 20/03/2019 17:25

Pretty sure the accruing holiday while on mat leave is a legal thing not a perk of where you work...

Nowthenforever2019 · 20/03/2019 17:58

That's correct, cookit

Tobebythesea · 20/03/2019 17:58

It’s so different.

I only get SMP as I would have had to work at my current employment THREE YEARS before qualifying for their additional pay (8 weeks full pay). My sister works at a university and they get 6 months full pay.

Having said that my DH recently qualifies for 6 months full paternity pay. Smile

coffeeforone · 20/03/2019 18:05

13 weeks full pay, the rest SMP. I took 6 months off, not sure how I'd be able to afford much longer.

Thelieswetelltoourselves · 20/03/2019 18:10

I got 26 weeks full pay then 13 weeks SMP. Additional 13 weeks unpaid. Had to return to work for one month so that 26wks full pay not recovered less SMP.

I didn't get maternity leave with second child. I really should have returned for just one day and I'd have qualified.

Third child nothing.

New company is standard SMP plus a bonus of @£2000 if you return to work at the end of maternity. Tbh most would prefer enhanced actual maternity pay.

sighrollseyes · 20/03/2019 18:15

12 weeks full pay, 18 weeks half pay + SMP

doodles1234 · 20/03/2019 20:12

6 weeks @ 100%
33 weeks @ SMP
It's rubbish compared to some civil service and corporate companies but I accumulate holidays and bank holidays so at least I get full pay for my holidays at the end.

Campurp · 20/03/2019 21:09

30 weeks at full pay, 9 weeks at SMP and then unpaid.

I'll be using accrued AL and BH's following the 9 weeks SMP to have a further 8 weeks off. I'll also make use of kit days during the SMP period to reconnect with my team and role, and have some full pay days as well.

Frizzy1986 · 20/03/2019 21:22

I only get standard, no additional maternity pay for me. It's been the same in every job I've ever worked at. Im so jealous of people who get more.

We don't earn that much to start with and due to new careers we are already on about £10k less than we were last time we were expecting and with a 5 year old we'll be pushed for saving so it's going be very very tight when mat leave comes around but we'll find a way.
