Can't cope any more

I'm 36+3 in a high risk pregnancy (thyroid, anaemia, family history of preeclampsia).

I've had HG all the way through and since about 24 weeks I've had SPD which is just getting worse and worse each day. I can't sleep because nothing is comfy, turning over has been difficult but now it is agonising to the point I'm basically screaming.

Walking is agony, the ball isn't working anymore, physio isn't doing anything and I can't afford private care.

I feel so lucky and excited to be having this baby but I honestly can't cope anymore, I'm in agony 😞 I have a growth scan this week, do you think there's even the slightest chance they'd agree to induce me before 49 weeks based on these reasons?

I can't drive, can't get in or out the bath/shower, tbh there's not a lot I can do! I know I'm not the only one struggling so im really sorry if it sounds like I'm being a drama queen, just really got my hopes up they'll induce at 38 perhaps but I've read they're unlikely to induce for SPD 😞

Thanks a lot x

Didn't want to read and run and leave this unanswered. I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. I'm afraid I have no answers or insight but wanted to offer an unmumsnetty hug and say I agree, it all sounds a bit shit. I think you could ask what the earliest induction date could be given your issues and see what they say after your growth scan. Good luck.

I'd be preparing to not get what you want. Inductions happen for medically necessary reasons. The reason for this is inductions carry increased risks of interventions and complications, including fetal distress.

As uncomfortable and miserable as you are (and I sympathise with horrendous spd - I was on crutches from 28 weeks and essentially bed bound by 32 weeks), every day that baby stays in is likely to be better for baby at this point, and that's the clinical criteria for Induction. Take each day as it comes - try not to get ahead of yourself. I found it best to have low expectations, then everything else was a bit of a bonus.

Just to offer a glimmer of hope, I’m 38+3 and have had horrible spd since about 24 weeks too. In the last ten days or so I’ve seen a huge improvement, totally out of the blue. I can walk without my crutches and the only problems I still have are turning over in bed and those first few steps after I get out of bed. I think it’s because the baby’s dropped down a bit. I was miserable and hoping for induction too, but I’m much more able to cope at the moment which has helped my mental state too. I found my midwife didn’t take my pain seriously at all, I don’t think they understand just how bad it can be which is why you might struggle to have an induction granted. Not to mention if your body isn’t ready, an induction could possibly be really rough on you
