Will I be high risk/need additional monitoring?

I am starting to think about TTC number 2 soon. My birth with DD ended in a emergency c section due to failure to progress. She was 9lb and back to back. Anyone any idea if that would deem me to be higher risk or need additional monitoring in a 2nd pregnancy?

I would expect you to be mainly midwife led but referred for a birth choices consultant appointment to discuss the birth and whether you should have a planned c section.

I’m in the same situation.
Classed as high risk for birth but low risk for pregnancy. I have had an appointment at 16 weeks with consultant and I have a scan and another appointment with consultant at 36 weeks. Everything else with the midwife.

I'm similar and like pp I have the standard midwife-led care during pregnancy but I have been referred to a consultant to discuss birthing options.

Thanks all, my pregnancy was very straightforward with no complications it was just the birth that went wrong! I think if they think it’ll be another big baby I’ll go straight for planned c section but might feel different near the time. Out of interest katniss and jackshouse are you having planned sections this time or planning on a VBAC? If you don’t mind me asking.

Planning a VBAC. DD was badly positioned and 9lb baby.

I had an emergency section with dc1 (at full dilation after failed forceps and pushing) followed by a whole bunch of postnatal mental health issues. With dc2 I saw the midwife as usual for a 2nd time mum and then I had 3 consultant appointments. One to discuss mode of birth and 2 to make sure I was coping with my mental health. I also got extra scans but that was due to dc1 being small at birth and me being over 40.

When I turned up in labour ahead of my elective section date (entirely my choice, just couldn't face a repeat of last time) they were totally laid back and encouraging of a mobile/drug free vbac if that's what I wanted (it wasn't) but I definitely wasn't treated as "high" risk (just a flight risk...every single consultant made a point of ensuring they were between me and the door).

I had a home vbac after a no labour first birth. When pregnant with second I saw the consultant once then declined to see him again. I’d say weigh up all the information but it’s ultimately up to you.
