Could my midwife be wrong?

Hi all I'm 33+ weeks and am really confused and annoyed. Over the last week I've had (TMI) different discharge and what looked like bits of mucus plug, not a big deal so I left it, then last night I got the worst cramps through my back and down my bum and thighs, I'm good with pain but I could barely stand (Tried to cook spagbol sat on the kitchen floor, tip: it's impossible) with very very light spotting bright red blood. When this eased off a couple of hours later then braxton hicks started coming, I timed them with my partner and they were 2-3 minutes apart lasting 50 seconds but no pain apart from an ache in my back. I considered calling triage but honestly it was late, I was exhausted and I knew I was seeing the midwife this morning so I went to bed.
Today they are exactly the same as last night.
I've just had a really frustrating appointment, the midwife firstly was not my usual one and didn't introduce herself or tell me her name. She tested my urine and said it was clear but had leukocytes in (doesn't that indicate infection?) She touched a really tender spot on my bump and laughed when I said that it was sore before pressing harder, then couldn't find my pubic bone and decided to measure from really low down practically touching my privates. She said the braxton hicks were normal, then felt them herself when measuring and said "If you get them again go to triage" but I still have them and she could see that? She told me it was normal and first babies usually come early, I've heard the opposite of that. Then gave me a 20 minute lecture on bonding with my bump, as if that was the problem. I'm very connected with my girl already.
Sorry for spelling/grammar but am i right to feel a bit frustrated with this appointment or is it normal?

Doesnt sound right and you should go get checked out

First babies are late more often than early, with your symptoms i would want examining properly

Mintypea5 · 19/03/2019 13:21

Doesn’t sound right to me. I’d say more often than not first babies are late.

I’d go get checked out with those symptoms

mummmy2017 · 19/03/2019 13:23

Always better safe than sorry
If your worried go in to maternity...
If they check and your ok, they will send you home, but you will feel better.

NWQM · 19/03/2019 13:25

I’d go to triage and I’d also be asking to speak to someone to ‘offer feedback’ on your experience as it really doesn’t sound great. Make a complaint depending on what happens at triage - ie was she technically right.

I'm 35wks atm and had very similar symptoms to this. Again, had leukocytes and it turns out I just had a nasty UTI. few days of antibiotics later, totally cleared up.
Could be anything though, always safer to get checked out if you're worried x

Fluffballs · 19/03/2019 13:40

Thank you all I will go get checked out

Of course your midwife could be wrong!

It sounds like she wanted to ignore your concerns and give you a bit of a lecture, urgh, so annoying for you. If you have leukocytes then you are likely harbouring a UTI which needs treatment. UTIs in pregnancy can cause early labour or worse.

Off you go to the hospital or GP to get a proper check, don't sit about worrying and wondering when you know in your gut that this midwife didn't give you a satisfactory response. The worst thing that will happen is that the Dr will say you're fine, then at least you'll have had a 2nd opinion.

Take care.

onemoremummy · 19/03/2019 14:13

Doesn’t seem right at all!

namechange1796 · 19/03/2019 14:25

UTI infections can irritate the womb and cause contractions - I had this in my second pregnancy at 32 weeks. The hospital admitted me and gave me steroids in case the baby came, tablets to help stop the contractions (they worked) and antibiotics. You need to ring labour ward or you day assessment unit. Good luck!

AnnieOH1 · 19/03/2019 14:32

Better safe than sorry. For what it is worth these were my exact symptoms 2 days before proposed induction for being late, my eldest arrived the second day only a few hours after my waters broke.

Blondiecub0109 · 19/03/2019 14:36

I thought I was losing mucus plug, turned out to be thrush (was different looking due to hormones, and had so much discharge down there didn’t notice the itching). I’d have expected her to get you to do a swab for infection at the least.

Update I've been monitored, had a positive ffn test, have been admitted over night and babies getting steriods.

Glad you got checked out. You are in the right place now. Good luck with everything.

mrsdolittle · 19/03/2019 19:42

Good luck OP xxx

Tefiti2 · 19/03/2019 20:36

Sorry that the test was positive, but so glad you’re being monitored! Once this is all over - please request to speak to the supervisor of midwives or similar. The way you were treated today was awful and could have led to a dangerous outcome if you hadn’t got checked. Xx

slipperywhensparticus · 19/03/2019 20:38

My first was early 🤷‍♀️

Chocolate50 · 19/03/2019 20:43

Well done. That 1st midwife sounds awful - but at least you are ok & baby is safe now

PartyintheKitchen · 19/03/2019 20:43

Glad you got properly checked OP, take care and rest if you can.

That midwife could have caused major issues if you had listened to her. What a waste of a midwife. Wouldn't be a bad idea to pass this info along to her supervisor.

justsotired2 · 19/03/2019 21:02

I had leukocytes at every appointment (and they acted surprised each time!!!) but no infection. I was also 3 days early with my first.

IVEgottheDECAF · 20/03/2019 07:03

Hope all ok overnight op
