Anyone an NHS worker and know about Maternity?

Hi all! Just a quick question to see if anyone knows when the nhs work out your Maternity pay? What weeks do I need to make sure I'm working more unsociable hours to bump it up as much as possible! The jargon is hard to understand and I don't understand if it's the months I get paid or the months before I need to worry about?

Only around 7 weeks at the moment and haven't disclosed to work so I can't ask anyone at work just yet without giving the game away!

Thanks all xx

If memory serves me right it’s the wage you earn in week 17 to 25 of your pregnancy and then they take the average from that to work out what you get paid.

You should be able to print your maternity policy off the intranet but I’m sure mine was the last 8 weeks you work prior to your 25th week of pregnancy. So week 16-24 of your pregnancy.

Thanks for the replies! My confusion is, is it what I work in those weeks or the month before for unsociable pay to be paid in those weeks? (As we work a month in advance) x

It’s what you get PAID in those months - doesn’t matter when you actually did the hours. If you are on monthly pay then I think it’s the two most recent payslips before 25 weeks that they calculate it from.

@Darkstar4855 thanks! So I need to work unsociable hours the month before to bump up those wages! Perfect 😍 now to secretly swap and not make it obvious 😂

Yes, exactly!

Yep exactly..bring on those weekends and nightshifts 😬

To check what months will be used, look up the latest SMP table on the gov.uk site. From this find the week your baby is due and then read across to the qualifying week and your OMP will be based on the two pay days that fall before the end of that week. For example if your baby is due the week 27/10 - 2/11 then your qualifying week will end 20/7 so it will most probably be May and June pay (depending on when you're paid) so will include any enhancements worked in April and May.

@Jessica71 thanks ❤️

Yep it’s annoyingly early that you have to work the unsociable, so make sure you sit down and do the maths and get your requests in. I’m in the 8 week period now and have REALLY struggled with nights and pregnancy so have had to come off them. Just keep thinking my health and the baby is more important than the pay but I do just wish the wage assessment was a bit later on!! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

@EllyNC291 absolutely- you have to look after yourself ❤️ just if I can bump it up I'd like to try 🤞🏻
