I'm only 6 weeks in and I'm already feeling terrible. I've not actually been sick yet (thank god) but I'm so nauseous most of the day. I'm getting bad headaches, my boobs are sore and I'm just feeling over all rubbish - like I've got some kind of flu. I also keep getting a really itchy mouth and throat which is keeping me up at night.

Got my first midwife appointment on Wednesday so I'm hoping she'll be able to give me some advice on feeling better.

So far, I'm not a fan of pregnancy :(

I feel you! I am so bless and thankful to be pregnant but I am counting down the days for the first trimester to be over!! I seen my midwife today and she gave my anti sickness tablets, so far not helped the sickness and made me feel even more tired

louise114 · 18/03/2019 21:59

So sorry to hear that, I felt exactly the same and it's so hard because you can't tell anyone too.

Try doing anything that will make yourself feel better, id throw away anything that sets you off, get rest, keep up your fluids and even though it's hard when you feel sick, take all of your vitamins.

I thought the sickness would go at about 12 weeks but unfortunately it didn't for me until about week 17/18. Ice lollies helped me a lot, soft mints and anything that was plain in taste and smell.

Hope you feel better :)

Try to take care of yourself and just do whatever you have to to get by.
It's sucked for me and I only have nausea, sore boobs and tiredness. I haven't properly cleaned the house in weeks, am lacking on cooking, tidying, need lots of naps and just generally feel rubbish. I'm getting close to 12 weeks and I think I remember things getting better at around 13 weeks so fingers crossed. It's a rough time when you always anticipate that you'll be glowing.

If I had to rate the 3 trimesters I would say 1 is the worst, then 3 (from memory) then 2.
The sickness should go before long. I'm in my second trimester at the moment - in my second pregnancy.

Hi all. First time posting but I've been desperately visiting the site throughout my first trimester. I've had all day morning sickness/hyperemesis since week 7. Narrowly avoided hospital admissions as just about managed to cram enough fluids in in the short window each evening when I'm not sick. Now at week 14 and have been off work for nearly two months. I had hope that at 12 weeks I'd feel marvellous, and shortly after 12 week mark the sickness did really die down (though not without the anti sickness tablets I've been taking all this time). However it came back with a vengeance last week and I am starting to lose hope. What I find helps though is to try to do something in those short times I'm not feeling so sick, just a walk or a phone call just to try to keep your mood up. Let people help you as much as possible. Keep your fluids up as best you can and ask for meds if you need them. They haven't stopped it for me but have reduced vomiting from over 15 times a day to under 5... I still live in hope that it will improve over next few weeks but have also started to prepare myself for the fact that it might linger. Hope yours passes very quickly!

I was MISERABLE in the first trimester. Nauseous all day every day, strong sense of smell made even the nice smells unbearable, I had aversions to basically every type of food and drink, so barely eating a thing but still getting bloated, throwing up anything I drank in the morning, tired all the time. And then there was the hormonal / emotional side, I just felt miserable, sad, insecure, I couldn't enjoy anything any more, I cried for no reason, I was not the best company for my poor husband lol.

But the good news is there is a very good chance you will feel better by 12ish weeks. For me personally, by about week 11 all those symptoms especially the nausea started reducing until completely gone. Felt so much better physically and within myself. Unless you're one of the unlucky women who suffer throughout, you will feel better I promise! :) I'm 39 weeks tomorrow and the majority of my pregnancy has been positive. The first trimester hurdle is the worst, but it does get better in the long run. Congrats on your baby :)

I’m currently 9 weeks today and feel awful!!!!! I haven’t had any breast tenderness but I have all day nausea, restless legs, no appetite and an overwhelming sense of tiredness; thrown in with the fact that I can’t seem to stay asleep. I’m congested all of the timeeee!!!! And, very nearly collapsed on Monday through dizziness and nausea.

However! I have discovered a couple things that form a great survival kit!

  • Soft mints (just as I think I’m going to vomit; I chew one of these like they’re going outta fashion .... it seems to help)
  • Mini ginger bread men from Sainsbury’s (my husband went into boots to ask what was good for nausea, the pharmacist didn’t seem to know; when he mentioned ginger the lad said “I’m not sure how that would help” ..... back to school for him I think! Anyways, they’re small and easy to carry around; big tub of them, strong in ginger and they really do help especially munching a couple before you get up in a morning!)
  • Lucozade smart water (EXPENSIVE! But worth it! Contains a fair amount of electrolytes which are, apparently, highly valued in pregnancy. I’ve found I’m keeping hydrated. I think it’s more of a mental thing; because it contains things good for the baby and it “gives you energy” I seem to feel better after drinking that than normal water with some juice in. My husband claims it’s no different to tap water; but my head believes different which in turn makes us feel different .... try it)
BillyAndTheSillies · 20/03/2019 08:10

10 weeks tomorrow and looking forward to this trimester being over with.
I've got zero energy and feel awful on DH and DS(3) because I don't want to do anything on a weekend except sleep.
Generally I'm ok once I actually get out of bed but physically getting out of bed or off the sofa is so hard.
I've got tonsillitis at the moment and am on my third day off work, three days of sleeping and eating have done me the world of good. I think I need three days off every week while I'm pregnant!

faelavie · 21/03/2019 16:16

The first trimester totally sucks. My breasts are on fire, I get constant headaches yet I'm not allowed to use anything other than useless paracetamol to relieve them, and I feel sick unless I'm constantly putting something in my stomach. Also everything tastes different, my food and drink aversions are insane.
All that combined with the fact that I can't really talk to anyone about it because of the whole 12-week rule (though close friends and family are aware).

Everyone tells me it gets better in the second trimester, I really hope so or I might go crazy.

twodogsandcounting · 21/03/2019 16:32

I hear you! I've now got a new symptom of cramping which my midwife and mummy friends have assured me is normal providing it's not accompanied by bleeding. I just want this first trimester to be over mainly because want to have my dating scan so I know everything is ok and as it should be. For me this whole fear of the unknown is killing me.

Me too!
I’ve just searched ‘struggling first trimester’ and so relieved to see I’m not the only one! Misery loves company right?
6 weeks in and I feel awful! Feel sick all of the time, completely shattered, breasts are killing and I constantly have this tight, cramping feeling across my stomach and lower back which is so uncomfortable.
Also... anyone else get terrible trapped wind?! Blush so painful!
This my first pregnancy experience and so far I can’t say I’m enjoying it at all! Working full time as a teacher seems impossible yet I’m dragging myself heaving through each day. Feel so bad for my husband as well as I am not pulling any sort of weight!
My mum keeps telling me it will be worth it in the end and just to enjoy it but the struggle of pretending to be feeling fine to people who don’t know, while feeling completely uncomfortable and miserable is not that enjoyable!
Welcome to reality I guess!

1990carey · 01/04/2019 19:04

I'm 5 weeks, and defo not enjoying this so far! I love that I'm pregnant, just not a fan of how I feel! Anyone else struggling with sleep? I'm exhausted but keep waking up in the night! And my sense of smell! Omg I can smell everything and let me tell you that's not particularly a great thing! Also my boobs are so sore! And the cramping wasn't nice either. Got lucky with the nausea so far, ont had it once or twice and it was manageable.
Also doesn't help that I had a scare this morning, my sister rang and told me my nephew had slap cheek! Obviously red alarm bells went straight away and i panicked so much! Was jn bits! So spent the day at the drs and getting bloods done at the hospital! Have calmed down now tho (it was those pesky hormones gurr!) And know I'll be ok and that the chances that I actually have it is slim!
Yah pregnancy is scary so far!

GillyGirl1 · 01/04/2019 21:22

Oh bless you! That’s does sound scary! I’m glad you’re okSmile
Yeh I’m with you. So glad I’m pregnant but not enjoyable so far! Sleep is a struggle, prepping for bed now almost with a sense of dread! Fingers crossed we all sleep soundly tonight and magically feel refreshed in the morning! Hehe! X
