Drink ideas - 7 weeks pregnant

Hi all, I'm 7+3 and in the full grips of nausea at the moment. All I want is salty carby "beige" food and quorn products (fake meat) and I'm really struggling to find a drink which I can actually stomach. I'm not vomiting but I usually drink over 2 litres of water plus soups and tea/other drinks and at the moment I'm lucky to get 750ml of fluid a day.

I drink a small glass of milk (or have milk and cereal in the morning) and ice water when I can but other than that I don't want anything! I've got bad headaches and I'm sure I'm getting dehydrated. I'm off squash, fizzy drinks, hot drinks and pretty much everything.

Does anyone have any tips for getting more fluids without actually drinking? I've bought some ice lollies but I'll have to have a box a day at this rate!

Thanks in advance from a desperately thirsty, nausea-suffering pregnant lady!

Perhaps try drinks with ginger, as it is supposed to ease nausea, though it never worked for me.

Jackshouse · 18/03/2019 17:58

Lime and soda works for me.

Nightmanagerfan · 18/03/2019 17:58

Could you suck ice cubes? If so you could make them from any drink really - squash, squirt of lemon juice, cordial? When I was finding it hard to drink early in pregnancy I was able to tolerate ginger cordial and weak elderflower. Tonic water? Lucozade?

Or just go for lots of iced water -if you can drink that?

It will get better I promise. I remember those early days eating nothing but toast/pasta with cheese and crisps. Oddly my skin looked amazing!

Seaelf · 18/03/2019 17:58

Have you tried jelly? You could make up whichever flavour is least nausea inducing and have little & often.

amehh · 18/03/2019 18:04

Great ideas thank you all. I'll pop out again tomorrow, I bought some small jelly pots but will make up some big ones too I think. I work in a school so can't pop off for freezing cold drinks all the time (and after s while I don't even want ice water) so maybe if I can have some jelly and other stuff during the day it might stave off the headaches!

Don't remember feeling so rough with my first! I'm going off food at an alarming rate but have eaten 2 sets of sandwiches today, bread is still fine haha

I’ve been the same with regards to carbs and off drinks. I’ve been disliking anything sweet. Gives me super bad indigestion.

I can’t help with any suggestions, I’ve been forcing myself to drink water but missing my squash with sparkling water.

Ricekrispie22 · 18/03/2019 19:16

Porridge made with water. I make mine up with water and then add some fruit purée or a spoonful of jam to flavour it.
Couscous - it soaks up the water
Watermelon (93% water)
Celery and cucumber
Tomatoes (94% water)

Try and avoid salty foods!

You can also make your own lolly ices, using either just water or whatever squash or fruit juice seems most appropriate. It will still take a lot to keep you hydrated, but at least they’ll be cheaper!

Walktwomoons · 19/03/2019 07:50

Try getting a really good thermos flask to keep your cold water cold in school.
Could you eat really juicy fruit?

amehh · 19/03/2019 10:27

I'll probably make some of my own - dig out the lolly molds! The only fruit that is edible right now is apples and most sweet food is off the table too. I'm forcing down some water today but it's hard going because it just seems to exacerbate the nausea (but all drinks are!). Hopefully just a few weeks of this and I'll feel better haha

I was able to drink ice cold tonic when nauseous.

QforCucumber · 19/03/2019 10:32

I'm obsessed with lilt and also apple juice at the moment. The only things I can actually stomach! Also 7+2 today.

UterusesBeforeDuderuses · 19/03/2019 10:35

Maybe try soups? Like a nice plain leek and potato or something. I remember the nausea, not fun, all I ate was breadsticks and cheese for a while!

Megan2018 · 19/03/2019 10:35

Original Lucozade has been my life saver, lemonade and apple juice.

I usually drink loads of water but for those early weeks it had to be something sweet.

Don't worry too much - it does pass!

Bluebell9 · 19/03/2019 10:48

Apple juice seems to be helping with my nausea. I'm 8+2 and its starting to get worse though.

kgeal3 · 19/03/2019 11:38

I'm in a similar situation and living on water as I can't stomach fizzy or warm drinks 🤢 I used to love Diet Coke but can't even look at it atm

Claireb2203 · 19/03/2019 17:32

I’m the same and am 11+1. Hope it eases soon.
